Shrimp Pizza with White Sauce- Easy Homemade Recipe!

I’ve always been a fan of shrimp—seafood in general so making this recipe was such a unique experience because I never thought pizza and shrimp would make such an incredible combination, but hey, I love pizza, and I love shrimp, so I figured, why not give it a try?

If you’re a fan of seafood pizza, then this is one to try. It’s super easy to make, and you can quickly whip up some juicy shrimp to top your pizza.

For this recipe, I half-cooked the shrimp first, and the rest of the cooking happened while the pizza baked. That method keeps the shrimp perfectly tender and juicy.

For the sauce, I used my classic white garlic pizza sauce—it turned out delicious! The creamy, garlicky flavor paired so well with the shrimp and gave the pizza that irresistible, rich taste

I included some thinly sliced tomatoes and finely chopped onions to add a little more texture.

I didn’t have a lot of shrimp left in my fridge, so I needed a few extra toppings, and those two worked perfectly!

The onions had a slight crunch, while the tomatoes tasted fresh making the whole pizza taste so good.

This pizza turned out amazing, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone who loves shrimp.

So, let’s not waste any more time—let’s get into this quick and easy seafood pizza recipe with white sauce! perfectly!

The onions added a slight crunch, while the tomatoes brought a freshness that tasted good.

Ingredient

Pizza Dough

This recipe uses my go-to Autolyse pizza dough that results in the most amazing crust.

As you can see in the final images, the crust is bubbly yet crispy on the edges and perfectly chewy on the bottom, making it the ideal pizza base.

If you’d like a detailed breakdown of how to make this pizza dough, you can check out my post on Autolyse Pizza Dough, where I explain the step-by-step process.

Shrimp

I used about 5 to 6 pieces of shrimp for this recipe, as I was making a small, regular-sized pizza (around 6 to 7 inches).

If you’re making a larger pizza, you can simply increase the quantity of shrimp to suit the size.

White Garlic Pizza Sauce

For this pizza, I used my homemade White Garlic Pizza Sauce, and it pairs perfectly with the shrimp and other toppings.

You can find the recipe on my blog—it’s quick, easy, and adds a creamy, garlicky base to the pizza.

If you don’t want to make this sauce from scratch, you can substitute it with Alfredo sauce or even a shrimp scampi sauce.

Alfredo will give you a creamy “shrimp Alfredo pizza,” while scampi sauce adds a tangy, garlicky kick. Regardless of the sauce you choose, the pizza will taste fantastic.

Mozzarella Cheese

I used shredded dry mozzarella cheese for this recipe, as it melts perfectly and complements the toppings.

You can use a cheese blend if you prefer, but I recommend sticking with mozzarella for its classic flavor. Avoid using fresh mozzarella here, as it may release excess moisture and affect the texture of the pizza.

Olive Oil (Optional)

You can drizzle a little olive oil on top of the pizza after baking for extra flavor. I personally skip this step for my shrimp pizzas, but it’s completely up to you.

Onions and Tomatoes

I finely chopped a small onion and used tomatoes with the pulp removed (just the thick outer flesh). This adds a bit of texture and freshness to the pizza.

You can skip the onions and tomatoes if you prefer or add more seafood for a fuller, seafood-loaded pizza.

Additional Toppings (Optional)

Feel free to experiment with other toppings! While I love the simplicity of shrimp, onions, and tomatoes, you can add other seafood like calamari, clams, or scallops for a more elaborate seafood pizza. I have used cilantro for garnishing.

Tips to cook the Perfect Shrimp Pizza with White Sauce

1. I cook the shrimp for about 4 to 5 minutes total—2 to 2.5 minutes per side. This ensures the shrimp is only half-cooked.

The exact timing depends on the size of the shrimp, but a good rule of thumb is to watch for when the shrimp forms a “C” shape. If the shrimp curls into a “C” and turns slightly pink on both sides, it’s done enough.

At this point, take the shrimp off the heat because it will finish cooking when the pizza bakes in the oven. I always make sure not to fully cook the shrimp beforehand.

If you want even more flavor, you can cook the shrimp in garlic butter for a garlic shrimp twist. It really enhances the taste and works perfectly with the pizza.

2. Make sure to preheat your oven before baking. If you don’t preheat it properly, you won’t be able to cook the pizza at 190°C (375°F) for 12 to 14 minutes as intended.

Instead, it will take much longer—around 20 to 25 minutes—and the pizza won’t turn out right. It won’t be crispy on top and soft and chewy inside.

Instead, you’ll end up with something stiff and overly crisp, almost like toast. So, to avoid this, always preheat your oven before cooking the pizza.

3. For this recipe, I used a cast iron skillet. If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, you can start cooking the pizza in a regular pan and then transfer it to the oven.

Alternatively, you can cook the pizza directly in the oven, but keep in mind that the bottom won’t turn out as crispy.

If you have a pizza stone, I highly recommend using it. Just place the pizza stone in the oven while preheating, then cook the pizza directly on top of it for the best results.

Equipment

  • 1 Cast Iron Pan
  • 1 Convection oven

Ingredients

  • 1 Pizza Dough Ball(150 grams)
  • 2 tbsp White Garlic Pizza Sauce
  • 5-6 Medium Shrimp
  • 7-8 Small pieces Tomatoes
  • 7-8 thinly sliced onions

Instructions

  • First, roll out the pizza dough. I personally don’t use a rolling pin as that can destroy the air bubbles in the dough; instead, I press the dough with my hands and fingers, making sure to push any air bubbles toward the edges. Then, I stretch the dough evenly to achieve a nice, uniform, thin pizza base.
  • To cook the dough, I use a cast iron skillet. Start by heating the skillet on high heat until it gets really hot.
Once hot, add a little oil to create a non-stick barrier, then place the pizza dough on top. Immediately lower the heat to medium and let the dough cook for about 4 to 7 minutes.
During this time, the bottom will become nice and crispy. Don’t worry if you see bubbles forming on the dough—this is completely normal.
  • Once the base is cooked and crispy, take the pizza dough out of the skillet and set it aside.
Now, spread a layer of white sauce evenly over the dough. Next, sprinkle some mozzarella cheese on top.
Add the half-cooked shrimp, onions, and tomatoes as toppings, and then finish with a little more cheese to help hold everything together.
  • Place the pizza into a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the toppings are perfectly cooked.
