Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza Recipe

I love pepperoni, mushroom, and pizza, and this Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza is my absolute favorite! I mean, what’s not to love?

The combination of pepperoni and mushrooms on a pizza is just so good—simple yet flavorful.

This recipe has become my go-to for quick dinners, especially on busy weeknights when I don’t have the energy to cook something elaborate.

It’s so easy to make and takes just about 20 minutes to get ready.

I’ve used a classic tomato sauce for this pizza, unlike some of my other recipes, like the White Mushroom Pizza or Spinach Pizza, which uses a creamy white sauce.

This one stays true to the traditional red sauce base, and I’ve used my homemade cooked red sauce for it.

The combination of pepperoni, mushrooms, and cheese is so savory and satisfying that it’s hard to stop after just one bite!

I often make this pizza when I need a quick, comforting meal. I even save a slice or two for a snack the next day. It’s that good!

This recipe is perfect if you want something delicious yet super easy to prepare. Give it a try, and I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do!

Ingredients

1. Pepperoni- I used simple pepperoni for this recipe, but sometimes I switch to chicken pepperoni.

I used classic pepperoni for this pizza, and it turned out absolutely delicious! You can use any type of pepperoni you like—it will taste great regardless.

Since I made a small pizza, about 6 to 7 inches in size, I only needed 4 to 5 slices of pepperoni to cover the pizza. If you’re making a larger pizza, you’ll need more slices, so adjust accordingly.

2. MushroomsFor this recipe, I used 3 to 4 button mushrooms. I sliced them vertically into thick slices to ensure they didn’t dry out or burn while cooking in the oven.

Cutting the mushrooms thickly helps them cook perfectly, giving the pizza a great texture and flavor.

3. Pizza DoughI used 100 grams of pizza dough for this small 6—to 7-inch thin-crust pizza (perfect for one person).

If you’re making a medium-sized pizza, you’ll need about 250 to 300 grams of dough. I recommend using my quick and easy 2-hour pizza dough recipe if you’re making the dough from scratch.

4. Pizza Sauce- I used my homemade pizza sauce for this recipe. It’s has a nice balance of sweetness, tanginess, and savory.

If you like your pizza spicy, you can mix in a little chili sauce for an extra kick.

However, if you prefer a milder flavor, my original pizza sauce recipe works perfectly as is.  You can also use store bought pizza sauce if that is what you like.

5. Mozzarella Cheese- I used mozzarella cheese for this recipe because it melts beautifully and adds the perfect stretch to the pizza.

You can use a cheese blend if you prefer, but I highly recommend including mozzarella in the mix for the best results.

How to Make Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza

1. Stretch the Dough- Begin by stretching your pizza dough to the desired size and thickness. Place this pizza dough on a baking tray or pizza stone.

2. Add the SauceSpread a generous amount of pizza sauce evenly over the dough. Make sure to cover the surface and leave some space on the edges of the pizza.

3. Layer the CheeseSpread some mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce, which will form the base layer of cheese.

4. Add Toppings- Arrange your pepperoni slices and mushroom slices evenly over the cheese.

5. Top with More Cheese- Add a small handful of mozzarella cheese on top of the pepperoni and mushrooms. This extra cheese helps hold the toppings in place as it melts, making it easier to slice and enjoy without toppings sliding off.

6. Preheat the Oven- Make sure to Preheat your convection oven to 200°C (390°F) for 10 minutes. This step is important so that the pizza bakes evenly.

7. Bake the Pizza- Place the pizza inside the preheated oven and bake the pizza at 190°C (375°F) for 15-16 minutes, or till the crust is golden and you see the cheese starts browning a bit.

8. Serve and EnjoyRemove the pizza, slice it, and enjoy your delicious pepperoni and mushroom pizza!

This method ensures the toppings stay in place and the pizza cooks perfectly.

Tips to Make the Perfect Pizza

Preheat the Oven- Always preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) for at least 10 minutes. If you skip this step, the pizza won’t cook evenly. The bottom will remain uncooked while only the top gets cooked. If you preheat the oven for longer than 10 minutes, your cooking time will be shorter, so adjust accordingly.

Experiment with Toppings- You can customize this recipe by adding extra toppings like onions, peppers, or sausage.

While I love the pepperoni and mushroom combination, feel free to experiment and add your favorite toppings for a unique pizza experience.

Grease the Cooking Surface- Grease the surface where you place the pizza. This helps ensure a crispier bottom and makes it easier to lift the pizza once it’s cooked.

I usually grease the pan with olive oil—just 1 to 2 tablespoons, depending on the pizza size.

You can use more oil if you want the dough to absorb some for extra flavor, but I prefer using a minimal amount so the dough doesn’t soak up too much oil.

Following these simple tips, you’ll get a perfectly cooked, crispy pizza every time!

Pepperoni Mushroom Pizza

Instructions

  • When I make pizza, I always start by stretching the dough. I like to take my time with this part until the dough has the right size and thickness. I then place it on my baking tray so I can top it with sauce and toppings.
  • I use around 2 tbsp of homemade pizza sauce for this recipe and spread it evenly all over the pizza. Since this is a low-effort pizza recipe, you do not have to worry about it being perfect.
  • Next, I spread a good amount of cheese on top of the pizza and make sure that it forms a barrier between the mushrooms and the pizza dough, as the dough can get wet from the moisture released by mushrooms.
  • Now, place the mushroom and Pepperoni toppings on the pizza. You can add as many pepperoni/ mushroom slices as you like, but make sure not to overload the pizza, as that could be too much topping for a thin dough to support.
  • Finally, I added a bit of mozzarella on top. I do this so when the cheese melts it holds the toppings together.
  • Before you bake, preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) for about 10 minutes. Trust me, this step is important for an evenly cooked crust and perfectly melted cheese.
  • Once the oven is ready, cook the pizza at 190°C (375°F) for 15-16 minutes. Keep an eye on it—you’ll know it’s done when the crust turns slightly brown and the cheese starts to develop brown spots.
  • Take your pizza out, slice it up, and enjoy.
