Garlic Knots with Pizza Dough- Easy Homemade Recipe

These homemade garlic knots are better than those you get at Dominos, and this garlic knots with pizza dough recipe will change your life forever.

This recipe is easy and quick, and if you love Bobby Flay’s pizza dough recipe, I use the same quick-rise pizza dough recipe to make these fantastic garlic knots.

You can even browse the Autolyse pizza dough or Poolish pizza dough, but those dough recipes work better with pizzas. But if you have some leftovers, then you could use them to make knots.

I think it is not worth it to go through all the hassle of making a Poolish dough for garlic knots.

Since these are ‘garlic knots with pizza dough’, you need some leftover dough, or you can even make some Bobby Flay’s pizza dough, as it takes just 4 hours to rise, and you can start making these knots soon after.

You can use crescent rolls, Pillsbury pizza dough, or any leftover pizza dough to make this recipe.

Garlic knots are nice and crispy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. With the butter and garlic sauce brushed on top and along with some marinara sauce, they make the best appetizers for any party.

This is one of the easiest homemade recipes; you can make these knots in 15 minutes.

Ingredients and substitutions

– 200 grams of Pizza dough

– 2 tbsp All Purpose Flour- This is optional and helps to dust the strips of dough so that they don’t stick and you get the perfect knot shape. Sometimes, the knot shape goes away when baking, but dusting the dough helps keep the knot shape intact.

– 4 tbsp Butter– You can use vegan butter to make the whole recipe vegan. I have used regular salted butter. Yes, and I still add more salt to give it more flavor.

– 6-7 minced garlic cloves– You can use dried garlic powder, but I love the strong garlic flavor from fresh garlic cloves; it is way too good and makes the garlic knots oh so garlicky.

– 1 tsp dried parsley- You can use dried parsley or even oregano to add more flavor to the butter. If you like, you can also use fresh parsley to give it that fresh flavor and color.

– 1 tsp salt

How to make Garlic Knots with Pizza Dough

1. Take a small pizza dough ball and start rolling it between your palms till you form a cylindrical long dough, like in the picture below. Cut it to the desired length; I usually make a long one and cut it into three.

Tip- If you do not want to do the above step, roll out the pizza dough, cut it into strips, and go to step 3 to form the knots. Either way works well. I like the garlic knots to be a little chunky.

2. Now, dunk each cylindrical dough piece in dry flour and roll it against a surface to elongate it until its thickness is somewhat even throughout the cylindrical pizza dough.

3. Take a piece of cylindrical dough, form a loop, and insert the free end through the loop created.

If your dough gets sticky when you pull it out of the knot, dust some flour(or dunk the strip in flour) on the dough so it doesn’t get sticky.

4. You have your garlic knots ready.

5. Bake it in the oven at 200°C for 15 minutes.

6. It is time to make the butter mix; add the melted butter, parsley, salt, and minced garlic and mix them well.

7. Brush this butter mixture on the garlic knots, or you could dunk the garlic knots in this butter mix.

8. Serve the garlic knots with pizza sauce or white pizza sauce.

Tips on Making Perfect Homemade Garlic Knots with pizza dough

1. You can save much more time by rolling out dough, cutting it into pieces, and making garlic knots. That way, you do not have to keep rolling the dough against a surface to make it of even thickness.

2. If you still find this method difficult, get a pizza dough can or crescent rolls can, as they have the pizza dough evenly rolled out, and all you have to do is cut them up and make the knots. I usually have leftover pizza dough, and I like to make these using them, so I had to demonstrate how to use them.

Can you freeze these garlic knots?

Oh yes, you can freeze these garlic knots and then place them in a ziplock bag. They last for 3-6 months in the freezer.

If you want to cook them, then take them out, place them in the oven, and cook them at 200°C for 15 minutes.

If you have frozen some already cooked leftover garlic knots, then freeze them the same way in a ziplock bag, and when reheating them, place them in the oven at 200°C for about 10 minutes.

Calories in Garlic Knots

The calories would vary depending on how much butter you brush on each garlic knot and how big you make them. I would say, in general, one single garlic knot is around 99kcal, and that would be considering you used 15 grams of dough and 4 grams of butter on each of them.

This is on the higher end, so if you brush a little less butter, you can significantly reduce the calories on these garlic knots.

I have not calculated the calories of the marinara sauce you would eat, which would be another add-on.

Garlic knots with pizza dough are high in calories, but you will be fine if you eat them in moderation or if it is a one-time indulgence, so feel free to eat as much as you like. You can freeze the rest, as suggested above.
