Ooni Koda 12 is a Gas Powered Pizza Oven and this light-portable Ooni pizza oven. In this Ooni Koda 12 review, we will discuss if this pizza oven is worth the buy or not!
The Ooni Koda 12 is no less than the other ooni pizza ovens as Ooni Koda 12 cooks amazing pizzas within 60 seconds just like others from Ooni Franchise.
Ooni Koda 12 even has another bigger version Ooni Koda 16, which in my opinion is pretty powerful and so much better as it comes with more cooking space.
If you are looking for which one is better amongst the Ooni Koda 12 vs 16 then you have to check out another interesting comparison post amongst the two.
For now, let’s focus on this gas-fueled pizza oven Ooni Koda 12.
Ooni had a wood pellet pizza oven and multi-fueled pizza ovens until Ooni Koda 12 was released.
Having a new release from Ooni was not only exciting, but it piqued my curiosity to know where the Ooni Koda stands among the other two pizza ovens being Ooni 3(now discontinued) and the Ooni Pro 16.
We have separate comparison posts as well, so make sure you check that out but for now, let’s dive into the review.
Specifications of Ooni Koda 12
The Ooni Koda Pizza Oven is a gas powered pizza oven with a stainless steel finish.
The specs of the Ooni Koda 12 is pretty impressive as the end result is a pizza oven that gets REALLY HOT and can cook pizzas within 90 seconds.
The pizza oven has a stainless steel finish, and the Oven has pretty good heat retention. The Oven also comes with a cordierite pizza stone, which cooks the base of the pizza evenly.
The exact dimensions are available on the Ooni website but one can say it is roughly big enough to easily carry around by one person.
It is heavy yet it is portable so one can carry it around without any issues. The dimensions of these pizza ovens do make them look portable and relatively lighter in weight.
Now, comparing the Ooni Koda 12 vs. Ooni Pro 16, the Ooni Pro 16 is a lot heavier, and even though the Oven is portable, it is a task to carry it around as it is more than twice the weight of the Koda.
The Ooni Koda does not need to install it; all you have to do is pull it out of the box, extend the Oven’s folded legs, place the cordierite pizza stone, and you are ready to cook.
It does not have a door and you do not specifically need a door on Koda 12 pizza oven. However, you can get some magnetic doors from third-party buyers for the Ooni Koda 12.

Ooni Koda 12 Gas Consumption
Ooni Koda 12 Pizza Oven is a gas powered pizza oven because of the ease of use of gas fueled ovens, unlike the other models from Ooni, which are multi-fueled.
The Ooni 3, which was popular when released, was a wood-fired pizza oven initially, and then they added a gas burner component making it multi-fueled.
On the other hand, this Oven is only gas-fueled, and you cannot use wood as fuel.
The gas consumption on this 0.28 kg/hr is pretty good considering that you can cook 50-60 pizzas in an hour.
Using the gas powered pizza Oven is easy as you need 15 minutes so that the pizza oven reaches the optimal temperature for cooking.
Ensure you have a temperature monitor or an Infrared thermometer to see the exact temperature that different parts of the Oven are and place the pizza inside the oven only when you feel it is right to do so.
The IF Thermometer is the one I like to use as I do not need to touch the pizza oven to know the temperature and can do so by just pointing the laser at the areas whose temperature I want to measure.
Cooking Pizzas Inside the Oven
Cooking Pizzas inside the Ooni Koda 12 is pretty simple as you need to attach the propane gas tank to the Oven and get it fired up.
I use my homemade authentic Neapolitan pizza dough recipe that works beautifully inside the Ooni pizza oven and just to make sure everything is fresh, I made mozzarella cheese at home and Neapolitan pizza sauce as well.
The results were amazing and I highly recommend making the cheese and sauce by yourself if you can because it just boosts the flavor of the pizza.
How long does OONI Koda 12 take to heat up?
The Oven would take about 15-20 minutes to reach the temperature desired. Once you have checked the temperature using the IF thermometer making sure it is above 400-degree Celsius, you can pop the pizza inside the Oven.
Now, cooking a pizza inside the Oven is easy as well since you need to wait for 2 minutes or sometimes even less at higher temperatures and keep turning the pizza using a pizza peel so that you have a pizza that gets evenly cooked.
One of the Oven’s downsides is that the pizza peel comes with a shorter handle; I usually prefer the perforated pizza peels with a longer handle.
I think choosing the right handle length is important while choosing the pizza oven.
Once the pizza has some leopard spots, the toppings are perfectly cooked, and there is that perfect cheese melt, your pizza is ready.
The Pizzas cooked inside this Oven are unique, and once you taste them, you are not going to eat a pizza outside. You can customize your pizza and cook thin crust or deep dish pizza according to your needs.
Ooni Koda 12 Cooking Tips
I know, this is a review but if you are looking for some simple Ooni Koda 12 cooking tips that you should know that the oven gets very HOT.
The dimensions of the pizza stone, only let you cook 12 inch pizza and nothing more than that.
This is the reason, the name is Ooni Koda “12” and not anything else.
You might want to turn the pizza once so that it cooks evenly from all sides.
Once you get the pizza oven hot, make sure you are quick with cooking pizzas else you can easily burn one.
Ooni cooks pizza real quick so keep an eye and turn the pizza halfway after it is cooked.
This pizza oven is perfect to enjoy several 12 inch pizzas.
If you want to make 16 inch pizzas then you can go for the Ooni Koda 16 variant which is another gas powered pizza oven but with different dimensions.
While cooking consecutive pizzas, make sure that you reheat the pizza stone after cooking one-two pizza so that the stone gets really hot while you cook pizzas.
Even if you dont, you would still get great results since the Koda 12 gets extremely HOT anyway.

Ooni Koda 12 Accessories
Once you have bought Ooni Koda 12 you can invest in buying accessories that can help you make the best of your Ooni koda 12.
You can get an Ooni Koda 12 Pizza peel, cover specifically to carry the Ooni Koda 12 along with a table, IR thermometer.
Although I recommend getting the Infrared thermometer from Amazon as it is cheaper.
I genuinely recommend the cover and pizza peel as these two are quite important and you can without the rest or manage with a better affordable option.
Maintenance
Since you are not using wood pellets like Ooni 3, it is much easier to clean up the pizza oven. There is not much soot produced in comparison to a wood-fired pizza oven.
The oven design makes it easy to wipe it down with a wet cloth, and if you are too much into cleaning, you can do some thorough cleaning with dish soap and water once in a while.
Overall, cleaning and maintaining the pizza oven is easy. If you have kept it outdoors, I would suggest that you wipe it down once before cooking on it.
If you want a gas powered pizza oven and a wood fired pizza oven together then do check out our Ooni Karu 12 review as it is the perfect multi-fuel pizza oven.
How to buy Ooni Koda 12?
Ooni Koda is a nice pizza oven that I would recommend. It is an affordable outdoor pizza oven that can help you make pizzas in less than 2 minutes.
You can easily host pizza parties or have small family get-togethers where everyone would enjoy some hot, freshly made pies.
The Oven is not as versatile as the Ooni 3 or the Ooni Pro pizza ovens, but looking for a gas-fueled pizza oven gives you the best-cooked pies.
It is portable and much lighter in weight than the Ooni Pro, so if you want an oven that works amazingly well and can carry it around easily, then Ooni Koda should be your choice.
Overall, I like this lightweight and compact pizza oven, which is easy to use without too many issues.
You should get the oven from their official website and you get a great warranty period. It is affordable and probably one of the best ways you can get your hands on the oven.
They often go out of stock, so get yours soon. You can buy from their website even if you live in Europe and of course U.S.

Hi,
First of all, thanks a lot for the review. Do you have any insights regarding the gas consumption?

Josh
I think it is around 280 grams an hour but you can ask Ooni on their live chat if you want the exact number. I’m sure it is around what I mentioned and I hope you find this useful!
Thanks.
