The latest release from Ooni is the Ooni Koda 16 and with all the different pizza ovens that Ooni has to offer, it is going to be interesting to see where the Ooni Koda 16 stands in front of the Ooni Pro.
Ooni Pro feels like the best pizza oven out there and if you are looking for an oven that can do it all then you might want to go with the Pro but since the Koda 16 has been released recently, it would only be fair that you compare both these pizza ovens before you go ahead and make that purchasing decision.
The Ooni Koda 16 is the dad version of the Ooni Koda pizza oven from Ooni which was a hit when it was released last year. If you are interested in reading a comparison post on Koda 16 and the Ooni Koda then read THIS post on our Blog.
The Ooni Koda 16 does promise a large cooking space and a gas burner that would help you cook your pies within a few minutes. The Ooni Pro is a multi-fueled pizza oven and both the ovens have something to offer.
So, without wasting any time let’s get comparing these two ovens and let’s find out which one is better than the other!
Design and Features
Tha Ooni Koda 16 has an outer design which is pretty similar to the Ooni Koda. The Ooni Koda 16 is a pretty amazing oven that comes with an excellent build consisting of a powder-coated steel shell for superior heat retention and weather resistance.
The pizza oven is pretty strong and has an excellent build hence making it amazing for outdoors and you can even keep it outdoors in all seasons as it can withstand the temperature changes.
The Ooni Pro has a highly durable build as well and it comes with the option of using different fuel to fire up the pizza oven. Both the pizza ovens are equally large and hence the question arises which one is a better choice?
Now, reverting back to the topic, the design of the Ooni Koda 16 is more of an open design where the oven does not have a closing door to the oven and a thermometer on the oven. You need to get a separate IR thermometer if you want to get the Ooni Koda 16.
The Ooni Pro, on the other hand, comes with an enclosing door with an insulated handle that makes the handling of the oven convenient. The door has a thermometer so you can tell the temperature inside the pizza oven.
Both the pizza ovens are large enough to cook a 16-inch pizza and the cooking surface is pretty similar although, considering the overall cooking space, the Ooni pro seems to have a larger space.
This way you can cook more dishes inside the Pro as you get more space to insert your cast iron skillet or even a full chicken. The Koda has a limited space which can be an issue for some people.
Fuels inside the Pizza Oven
The Ooni Koda 16, just like the Ooni Koda is a gas-fueled pizza oven and if you are looking for a multi-fueled pizza oven then it would be better if you turned around to options like the Ooni Pro or the Ooni Karu.
Ooni Koda is only gas-fueled but it works amazingly well and you are going to like it since there is no trouble of inserting wood every few minutes.
To put in better words, gas-fueled pizza ovens are easier to use because you can control the flame and hence the temperature inside the oven.
There is not much that you can do in a wood-fired pizza oven, you surely can control the temperature but it would take some time for you to get the oven’s temperature to what you have desired.
The Ooni Pro is a multi-fueled pizza oven which is an added advantage considering that you can CHOOSE for your oven to be a wood-fired pizza oven or a gas-fueled pizza oven.
So, you can get a gas attachment for the Ooni pro pizza oven and it would work as good as a gas-fueled pizza oven but the gas attachment has several issues.
One, you need to purchase it separately and it does not come included and another would be some people found it a little irritating to fix the gas attachment.
You can work around it but it would be better to consider these points before you go ahead and invest your money in a pizza oven.
Cooking with the pizza ovens
You have to give it to the Ooni Pizza Ovens when it comes to cooking pizzas. They are pretty amazing ovens and you can easily cook pizzas within a minute which is the best part of using Ooni Pizza ovens.
The Pro and Koda are both amazing ovens and you are not going to find any changes in the taste of the pizzas that you cook inside both these ovens.
The ovens are pretty much easy to use and the Ooni Koda felt a little easier when it came to cooking. You just need to adjust the flame inside the oven and get started with cooking pizzas.
If you are using the gas attachment on the Pro then the experience might be the same, just that you have to consider there is a door that helps with heat retention on the Pro.
But since the Pro primarily comes with a wood burner attachment you are stuck with it and if you are someone who is fine with using a wood-fired pizza oven then great otherwise you are going to enjoy cooking in the Koda 16.
You can cook 16-inch pizzas inside both but there is more room for cooking other dishes inside the Ooni Pro all you need is an iron skillet. You can cook meat, vegetables and even your meals inside the Ooni pro.
The Ooni Koda 16 can take it as well but you need to understand that the Pro is just a tad bit more spacious.
Both the Pizza Ovens are pretty amazing and I like both but considering what you are paying for the Pro, I would recommend the Roccbox Pizza Oven instead.
The Roccbox comes with all the necessary accessories including the gas burner so you do not have to buy anything separately.
But then the only downside between the Roccbox and the Ooni Pro is the cooking space which is slightly less in the Roccbox but you can easily cook anything in both the ovens so it should not be a deal-breaker.
The Koda 16 is perfectly priced and if you are okay with an only gas-fueled pizza oven then you should go for this on without a second thought, but if you are into the Ooni Pro and want something that would be muti-fueled then a better option would be Roccbox.
There are some other features as well where I think the Roccbox does well and better than the Ooni Pro Pizza Oven and that is the reason I would recommend it.
Else if the price is the thing stopping you then you can get the Koda 16 too. The Pizzas cooked with both the ovens are almost the same Neapolitan style pizza just that in a wood-fired oven you get the flavor of wood which is loved by everyone.
