The Ooni Koda 16 is a new release from Ooni, and they are probably one of the best outdoor pizza oven and make authentic Neapolitan pizzas at home.
The Roccbox Pizza Oven is no less, so it would be amazing to compare them in this Ooni Koda 16 Pizza Oven vs. Gozney Roccbox Pizza Oven post and see which one is better.
The multi-fueled Roccbox Pizza Oven is a great option considering that you have the choice to either use wood or gas as fuel.
The Ooni Koda 16 is a large gas-fueled pizza oven and would help you make some 16 inches pizzas pretty quickly.
Ooni has been at the top of its game since it started. It has produced amazing pizzas with different kinds of fuels and different sizes.
Roccbox, on the other hand, is produced by the company, Gozney.
The Roccbox pizza oven is fantastic and powerful.
With extreme power, both of these pizza ovens can cook a pizza within minutes, and I was pretty excited to get my hands on these two pizza ovens.
Of course, it is not possible to own both of these but I have had friends who owned these ovens and together I can give you an opinion on whether or not these pizza ovens are worth the money.
The Roccbox pizza oven is perfect for someone who wants to enjoy both, pizzas cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven and pizzas cooked in a gas-fueled oven.
I think the biggest selling point of the Roccbox pizza oven is that it is a multi-fueled pizza oven.
While the Ooni Koda 16 is more for someone who wants a huge oven that cooks large pizzas quickly under 60 seconds and since it is propane-fueled, cooking with this will be quicker.

I genuinely liked the Ooni Koda 16 because it was super fast.
So, let’s start by comparing both these ovens and figure out which one is a better investment than the other.
Design
The Ooni Koda 16 has the previous Ooni Koda design, so, at first glance, the Ooni Koda 16 is just a bigger version.
The shell is powder-coated stainless steel, which makes the Ooni Koda 16 perfect for outdoor cooking.
It has an interior roof that is fiber-insulated ceramic to keep the heat inside it.
This insulation has around 20 millimeters of ceramic, which makes for a high heat-retaining capability.
The Roccbox Pizza Oven is a portable oven, more colorful than the Ooni line of Pizza Ovens.
You can get the Roccbox in two colors- green and gray.
With that said, it comes with a carry bag that makes it extremely easy to move around with this pizza oven.
It weighs over 20 kilograms, which is still good for carrying it from your backyard to your storage room, but it is quite heavy for moving it around constantly.
However, with the same foldable legs, the Roccbox is a small portable oven.

It has a built-in thermometer on the oven side, which accurately tracks down the temperature inside the oven, and you do not need to move a door or anything to see it.
The product comes with two separate fuel attachments, both for wood and gas.
There is a cover for the oven and a pizza peel that can handle 12-inch pizzas.
Features
The Ooni Koda 16 is around the same weight as the Roccbox; it is a large pizza oven that can obviously cook a 16-inch pizza, and it weighs about 18 kilograms or 40 pounds.
The width of the oven is 23.6 inches, which means that it can really handle large pizzas.
However, the thick insulation, the burners, and the shell make up for space, so you are left with 17 inches of interior width. Still large enough for a 16-inch pizza.
The 15-millimeter thick cordierite baking stone comes with the oven and is stone-baked to get that maximum heat retention and durability beyond its thickness.

Burners on the Pizza Ovens
The gas attachment of the Ooni Koda 16 is found at the bottom of the oven, which is unusual since it just does not feel comfortable placing it on a flat surface when its legs are folded.
The original Koda had this compartment on the back of the oven, so I still think that was better for portability and comfort.
However, what makes the bottom gas attachment better is that the knobs are now more accessible.
The fused ignition and control knob is on the side of the oven, so you can easily reach for it.
It has a powerful burner, so if you want to cook another recipe besides pizza, you can control the flame to avoid burning or undercooking foods.
Ooni Koda 16 has an L-shaped burner that runs on the back of the oven all the way to the side.
This caters to the needed heat inside the oven’s large interior, and it heats the oven pretty quickly.
How Roccbox Aces in insulation…
The Roccbox, on the other hand, has a thick shell, so insulation really is not a problem.
The oven also has a cover, which means that you can keep the heat inside.
It has a high-heat silicone cover, which is great for protection from external factors and the heat inside when the oven is burning hot.
Just make sure not to touch it as it heats up very easily.
The Roccbox has stainless aluminum on its front, which gathers soot easily, so you might want to clean it every now and then to keep the oven looking good as new.
You get two fuel attachments when you buy the Roccbox: one for gas and one for wood fuel.
The attachments make the oven somehow portable since they do not remain attached to the oven.
The oven also has a thermometer, which can help determine your preferred temperature for a specific recipe.
Although if you plan on cooking steak inside this oven then I would recommend using the IR thermometer as that gives you the exact temperature of the food you cook in the oven.
Performance
The Ooni Koda 16 is a mighty oven with its L-shaped flames and can heat up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit.
Within 20 to 30 minutes of preheating, the oven reaches that amount of heat, and you can cook your 16-inch pizza in less than a minute.
The L-shaped burners are developed to make the oven heat up as fast as the smaller ovens while keeping the ability to cook a huge pizza.
Since the flames run all the way to the side of the oven, the pizza will cook on two different sides simultaneously.
Meaning you do not need to turn it around as often.
With that being said, you still need to keep an eye on your pizza since the flames are very powerful.
You can also control the flames with the knob for an easier way.
I love Cooking with the Cordierite Stone…
The cordierite stone used inside the Ooni Koda 16 pizza oven really does its job. It is very durable, and it heats just as well as the oven.
The flat cordierite surface does not leave any dents meaning it can cook a pizza evenly, and it does not leave any burns.
It is also wide, so you can fit large pizzas and cook them in the oven.
The Roccbox does not go far from the level of the Ooni Koda 16 when it comes to performance.
It can heat up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit as well and cook amazing pizzas in seconds.
This oven takes longer to heat up, and you need to preheat it for 30 minutes to reach the temperature that cooks Neapolitan Pizzas.
The thick insulation, shell, and silicone cover of the oven combine to retain the oven’s heat for a long time.
Tracking the temperature is not that hard too since the thermometer is found on the oven side.
When it reaches the red mark on the thermometer, you can be sure that your pizza will cook in 60 seconds.
The Roccbox performs best with the propane gas attachment since you can control the heat to prevent burned areas on your pizza.

The oven’s wood fuel attachment only performs well when you use hard, non-treated wood.
You should also follow the right size to fit the pieces of wood into the compartment.
The attachment requires 5 inches long and an inch thick wood to make it work.
These dimensions add up to the work you need to put in, so gas is the better choice as fuel.
Cooking inside the ovens
In less than 30 minutes from turning the Ooni Koda 16 on, your pizza will be ready, and you might even have cooked more than one by that time.
20 minutes of preheating might still be a long time to wait, but it is enough time to prepare your pizza while waiting for the oven to heat up.
Once you get your Ooni Koda 16 going, you can be sure that your pizza will be cooked in less than 60 seconds, depending on the thickness of your crust.
It creates a beautifully cooked crust with a crisp.
The excess moisture from the pizza is absorbed and burned by the baking stone to create the crust we all love.
Despite the lack of a door, the heat stays long enough in the oven for you to cook at least one more pizza after turning the heat down.
Thanks to its innovative design and amazing insulation.
With the semi-dome shape and fiber insulation, Ooni stepped up its game and made its patented Flamekeeper Technology known.
Since both of the ovens heat up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit, you can be sure that the Roccbox Pizza Oven can do just as well as the Ooni Koda 16.
The REAL Difference
The main difference is the Roccbox cooks 12-inch pizzas. Despite that, it does its job very well.
The oven also preheats for a longer period of 3 minutes to heat the entire oven with its thick insulation.
The engineered stone floor helps create a crispy crust as well, and in less than 20 seconds, you can enjoy your perfectly cooked pizza.
The Roccbox Pizza Oven opening is quite small, so it is hard to maneuver the pizza once it is inside.
They did, however, include a thin pizza peel, which can be helpful.

It is still proven that the gas burner is better than the wood fuel attachment.
For starters, wood creates a lot of smoke, which can be beneficial for the flavor, but it makes a mess.
Another thing is that if you want to cook another recipe, it is always better if you have control over the oven’s heat, and that might be hard for you when you use wood.
Since both ovens’ temperatures can be controlled, cooking other foods such as steak, chicken, vegetables, and more is totally plausible.
Conclusion
The Ooni Koda 16 and the Roccbox Pizza Oven are two different ovens, and you can notice them at first glance alone.
However, they both make great pizzas with their powerful flames.
Cooking pizza is always fun, and having either oven in your kitchen or backyard only makes it better.
The Ooni Koda 16 is a newer model and has more innovative features with the L-shaped flame burner that heats the pizza oven quickly and helps you make a pizza as big as 16 inches within a minute.
For the features at the given price point, I would recommend the Ooni Koda 16.
But if you want to check out a multi-fueled pizza oven, you could go for the Ooni Pro, another great multi-fueled pizza oven by Ooni.

The Roccbox will take slightly longer than that, which is about a minute or so, but you can cook pizzas up to 12 inches inside the oven.
The Koda 16 is a propane-fueled oven for someone looking for a large pizza oven that can heat up pretty quickly and quickly make pizzas.
Then you can go with the Ooni Koda 16 Pizza Oven.

They are portable and you can use them traveling outdoors for a more fun cooking session.
The price point of both the pizza ovens is pretty much the same, so the decision gets even difficult.
Consider this-
1. Roccbox is a multi-fueled, relatively smaller pizza oven and the Koda 16 is a large pizza oven that can cook 16 inches pizzas within a minute.
2. The Ooni Koda 16 is convenient to operate since it is gas-fueled, so it would take you less than 10 minutes for the oven to reach the right temperature for cooking.
3. Ooni Koda 16 comes with a three-year warranty making it a better choice than the Roccbox with a warranty year.
(I think they have increased the warranty time period, so make sure to check the warranty of Roccbox at the time of purchasing)

Hi,
I have been looking for a good pizza oven for the last week and couldn’t decide between these 2 ovens. I’m thinking of going for the Roccbox Pizza Oven because it’s small and compact yet very useful at the same time. Plus the price seems right.
Thank you for this comparison.
Glad you found this post helpful!
Pizza! There are so many ways to make it, and everyone is passionate about their being the best. Might as well get your own pizza oven and give it a try in quarantine. There is not much else to do, now is the best time to try something new like cooking. Great stuff!
Hi,
I have been looking for a good pizza oven for the last week and couldn’t decide between these 2 ovens. I’m thinking of going for the Roccbox Pizza Oven because it’s small and compact yet very useful at the same time. Plus the price seems right.
Which oven do you recommend for someone that’s after something easy and cost-effective?
I would like the Ooni Koda 16 since it is a larger pizza oven and cooking in gas-fueled pizza ovens is just so much convenient.
When buying an outdoor product, good point is that quality is key. This two companies have made sure that they out in quality into this product here and also given us good features to look out for but in our age today, innovation is very important and when we get a quality product that infuses innovative features as well like the ooni koda16, then j doubt there should be a need for contemplation.
Yes, Ooni Koda 16 is definitely new and comes with all the innovative features. Roccbox is a good choice for someone who wants a multi-fueled pizza oven but otherwise, Ooni Koda 16 gives you some excellent results with a lot of ease in cooking.
Quite a distinction here but I believe that the decision to go for one rests solely on us as individuals depending on what we truly want. Left to me, I prefer the ooni koda16 since it is relatively new and has more better innovations which could make the cooking experience more better. Thanks for the juxtaposition between these two great pizza oven
Yeah, I find all the Ooni Pizza Ovens amazing and with their three-year warranty you are assured that you are making the right investment.
Hi, just started looking into pizza ovens, the Roccbox website says it has a 5 year warranty, not sure if this is a new change vs when you reviewed it?
I think it has changed but if it says 5 years, then it is 5 years.
Ciao! Yeah, this is a difficult decision because both are great ovens but in my case I will go with the Ooni pizza oven. I really like that special touch in the pizza’s taste when it’s cooked with wood but the most important point for me is to be able too cook big pizzas as fast as I can!
Thanks a lot for helping me make a well informed purchase.
The Ooni Koda 16 would be the best choice since you can cook large pizzas under a second.
Hi, i am just beginning to learn how to make a pizza and it been a very interesting thing for me and my kids so far, with my daughter showing so much interest in it. This is the reason why i am in search of a good pizza oven that i can get as soon as I have the chance to. You have made a really wide comparison between these two ovens and I must say it’s well detailed and relayed. So far, i am impressed by the Ooni Koda 16 and would like to get one.
Making pizzas can be one of the best ways to spend time with your family, I mean who doesn’t like pizzas.
Hi John,
You’ve managed to compile a very comprehensive guide between the two different ovens.
If I may suggest: Consider just adding a few headings to some paragraphs (or keywords in bold) for some lazy readers (such as me!) who wants to quickly scan through just the features which matters most to them?
Your section “Consider this” is a good summary of the two ovens.
Thanks, I would definitely consider your opinion and sorry for the discomfort you had in browsing our website.
Hi, great article comparing two solid pizza ovens! Out of curiosity is the Roccbox more likely to cook a pizza more evenly compared to the Ooni Koda 16, since the Ooni has an L-shaped burner?
For the Ooni, is this potentially minimized by say where you place the pizza? I’m considering using a 12” deep dish Lloyd’s pan and am wondering if placed slightly away from the side of the burner on the Ooni will yield a more even cooking? Or if no matter where you place a 12” pan would it require rotating halfway though the cooking?
Finally I think I’ve read the Roccbox wouldn’t even hold the 12” pan, so even it cooks more evenly I’d need to go down to the 10” pan if I wanted to use a Roccbox. Are each of those accurate statements in your opinion?
Thanks again for a great article!
I think you do require to rotate it regardless for even cooking. Ooni 16 has the space to cook 16-inch pizzas so the cooking space is larger than the Roccbox.
Thanks so much!!! Again, great article!
Glad I could help!
I enjoyed your review. I have been reading and watching a number of reviews between these two ovens. However, no one seems to mention the natural gas conversion kit you can get with the Ooni Koda 16. This is actually the one feature that I am most interested in because I do not enjoy dealing with propane tanks and I have a natural gas hook up on my patio. I am curious if the temperature or uniformity of the cooking is affected by the use of natural gas with the conversion kit. Do you have any information about this? I would love to hear if anyone has had an experience with the natural gas conversion kit.
Thanks!
Thank you for this article. My heart was already set on Ooni Koda16 when looking for pizza oven to buy. It is a bit costly compared to Roccbox but it is a new model and bigger. Last week, Ooni confirmed that my ordered oven is now in the warehouse ready for dispatch and I should get it within 10 working days. However, today, I got another email from Ooni regarding delay in delivery so now I’m thinking of cancelling the order and getting Roccbox instead. While trying to work out the pros and cons, I stumbled across your post. Still undecided if I should cancel my order with Ooni.
Ooni cooks a pizza in under 60 seconds while the Roccbox Pizza oven takes a minute or two in order to cook a pizza.
Roccbox is a wood, propane gas-fueled pizza oven while the Koda 16 has a natural gas conversion kit along with the typical propane burner.
Also, something I like about the Roccbox is the insulation and you get some needed accessories for free with the oven.
I hope this helps in making a better choice.
