White Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

May 5, 2021 by Shrey Leave a Comment

If you want a recipe that will have you wanting for more, then this white pizza grilled cheese sandwich recipe will be the best option for you with its creamy and delicious flavor.

Making pizzas is a fun experience, and you can put anything you want in it.

Grilled cheese is another favorite when it comes to snacks that any member of the family enjoys eating.

Combining the two creates a unique snack that gives you something to eat while watching your favorite program or when you are just relaxing in the backyard by the pool on your day off.

While it sounds tricky to make, it is simpler than making pizzas, and that is saying a lot since making pizzas is not that hard.

This can also be a healthier option than regular pizzas.

You can make yours at home and edit the ingredients with whatever toppings you prefer.

This is the beauty of cooking at home as you get to select the more familiar ingredients for the recipe.

So follow the steps first on making the basic white pizza grilled cheese sandwich recipe, and once you master it, you can then add the ingredients you want to the recipe below.

What You Will Need

First, you will need to get the ingredients for the grilled cheese part. Of course, you will need to get cheese for this, and for me, the best type for this recipe is cheddar cheese.

There are many types of cheese to choose from, and you can go with provolone cheese, mozzarella cheese, or any type of cheese that you want, or you prefer to give taste to it.

Just make sure that you get a type of cheese that melts easily, even without too much heat. The secret to melting cheese is not the temperature but the longevity of cooking with consistency.

You can also combine other cheeses for this recipe to create a unique taste. I have mixed a little bit of American, mozzarella, and provolone cheese with cheddar for this recipe.

Get some softened butter and divide them later on for the other parts. Get two thick Italian bread for the sandwich, or get as many as you need for the guests you plan to serve.

You will also need some ingredients for the sandwich to have that pizza taste and quality. Get a small sweet onion to go with your salty cheeses, and get as many as you need for your guests.

A small amount of garlic and onion powder, some salt and black pepper to taste, and a teaspoon of crushed rosemary. You can then edit the ingredients later if you want.

You can also add some of your favorite pizza toppings, such as pepperoni, later on, but for this recipe, we will stick with the basics and put only the cheeses for a buttery and salty snack.

Step 1: Ready Your Skillet

Get a cast-iron skillet ready, and then heat it on the stove over medium heat.

You will need two separate skillets to scoop the butter later or just do the whole process in one.

Melt the butter on the skillet and wait for it to become completely liquid.

Put the onions on the skillet with the melted butter and then cook for about 5 minutes or until it starts to brown a little.

Transfer them to a plate once they are browned, and then set them aside.

These will be your toppings, later on, so make sure you do not burn them when you cook them in the butter.

Step 2: Mix The Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix the remaining butter, onion and garlic powder, rosemary, salt, and pepper.

Make sure that you evenly spread the ingredients into the mixture and set them aside.

Prepare the slices of bread by placing them on a clean baking sheet or a working surface.

Get a spoon or a butter knife and spread the mixture on each bread slice evenly throughout the top.

Lay the cheeses on a separate baking sheet, and then get your utensils for cooking.

Keep the ingredients close to you to cook them immediately, as they would finish pretty quickly later on.

Step 3: Cook The Sandwiches

Heat another cast-iron skillet and then wait for it to get to medium heat.

Test the pan’s surface temperature by putting a tiny drop of butter on the surface and see if it boils.

Once it does, but one of the slices of bread on the skillet with the buttered side down.

Put the American cheese, cheddar cheese, provolone cheese, and mozzarella cheese on top.

Cover the cheeses with the other slice of bread, this time with the butter side facing up.

Grill for about 3 minutes until the bread on the bottom starts to brown and the cheese starts to melt.

Flip over and then grill further for another 3 minutes.

Cook until golden brown and the cheese starts to melt over the bread before removing and then put them on a plate, then serve!

What Cheese Is Best For This Recipe?

There are many different types of cheese that you can use for this recipe.

I have already used four of them, but you can edit it and put another type of cheese to the recipe if you want to.

For example, I have made other versions of this recipe, and I found some amazing substitutions to the types of cheese on the recipe above. You can put Colby cheese or Blue cheese in it.

Blue cheese is a great addition to the cheeses on this recipe as it mixes its buttery texture with its sourness.

The countered saltiness of the other cheeses creates a beautiful slight sweetness.

No matter the cheese you want, just make sure that you put something with a relatively quick melting point.

That way, you will not leave clumps of cheese inside the sandwich when cooked.

Cheddar cheese is still my favorite, and I always put it as the base for this recipe. I just add other types of cheeses, which help in creating a nice combination of flavors and textures.

Cheddar cheese is a type of cheese that melts quickly and goes so well with grilled cheese. Select a white cheddar cheese to spice up the flavor with some saltiness and buttery flavor.

Storing The Leftovers

If you have cooked too many sandwiches and you have some leftovers, do not force yourself to eat them all.

You can store them and just reheat them later on when you want some snacks.

You can do this by putting the sandwiches in a zip lock bag and inside a sealed container.

Put them in the refrigerator, and then you can let them stay there for up to four days.

Whenever you want some, you can put them in the cast-iron skillet again to reheat or do it in the oven.

You can then enjoy the same cheesy flavor that you want with the leftover sandwiches.

It will last longer if you put them in the freezer, but I would not recommend it as there are some times when the sandwiches gather too much moisture that they become soggy when reheated.

Conclusion

Grilled cheese is a great snack, and combining it with classic white pizza is a great way to make your relaxation time even better. It is also easy and fast to make.

You can make your own white pizza grilled cheese sandwiches with the recipe above and impress your friends with this cheesy snack. You can also edit the recipe if you want to.

There are many types of cheese that you can choose from so put anything you want. Just make sure to melt the cheese without burning the slices of bread, and you will have a great snack in no time!
