Is the Ooni Fyra at par with the high end Ooni Pro?- Ooni Fyra vs Ooni Pro Pizza Oven

Ooni Pizza Ovens are one of the best brands when it comes to pizza ovens and if you are wondering which Ooni Pizza Oven is the best for you amongst the Ooni Fyra and the Ooni Pro then you have come across the right post.

There are quite a few Ooni models right now and the Ooni Fyra is the most budget-friendly model that is powered with wood pellets, while the Ooni Pro is a pizza oven that is multi-fueled.

If you are looking for a pizza oven that can cook a pizza better than the ones you order from fast-food restaurants, then consider buying either one of these two ovens.

Ooni has produced so many amazing pizza ovens in the past and the newest pizza oven is here-The Ooni Fyra.

As for bigger ovens with powerful heating capabilities, the Ooni Pro does not let anyone down when it comes to its cooking power and large capacity.

Just like the pizza ovens produced by Ooni, these two impressive pizza ovens are top-of-the-line performing ovens that are meant to give you an amazing finish on your pizza.

People who know Ooni also know that they are great in making ovens that are portable and the same is applicable to the Ooni Fyra. Ooni Fyra is a lightweight portable pizza oven.

The Ooni Pro may come as a large oven but it is still a relatively small one in comparison to most of the typical wood-fired pizza ovens that have a similar power that you can fit in any size of patio that you have.

In this comparison post, we will look at the major differences between these two amazing pizza ovens as well as the similarities that give them the power to produce incredible pizzas.

Design

The main difference between the Ooni Fyra and the Ooni Pro is their size. The Ooni Fyra is a small, portable oven that can handle 13-inch pizzas.

The Ooni Pro, on the other hand, can cook pizzas over 16 inches. It is also bulkier than the Ooni Fyra because of internal features that we will be talking about later on.

Since these two ovens both use wood as a primary source of fuel, they coth have the attachments to handle wood to fire up the oven.

The Ooni Fyra has a pellet hopper that looks like a second chimney at the back of the oven and you can easily fill it up with pellets using the scoop that comes with the oven.

Ooni Fyra

The Ooni Pro has a charcoal and wood burner attachment that is seamlessly attached to the back. Basically, it does not have a tail chimney-looking attachment.

The burner is just installed in the back and the only protruding part in the design is the handle that comes with the door that closes the burner.

Speaking of the chimney, the Ooni Fyra has a two-part detachable chimney that can fit perfectly inside the oven for portability purposes.

The Ooni Pro has a chimney and can be twisted and turned so you can remove it. The chimneys are designed in a different way.

The Ooni Fyra’s chimney is a cylindrical chimney while the Ooni Pro has an octagonal-shaped chimney.

Ooni Pro has an advantage in this one when it comes to protection. The chimney of the Ooni Pro includes a cover so you can be sure that rain and other elements do not get inside the oven when it is not in use.

The similar thing with their chimney is that the airflow can be adjusted in both of them. Ooni Pro was designed to have a lever in its chimney to either fully open or limit the airflow.

The Ooni Fyra’s chimney was then patented with that same design to let the air be controlled inside the oven.

The handles of the ovens are also the same in a way that they are both cool-to-touch. However, the difference is that they are made out of different materials.

The Ooni Fyra has handles that are made out of glass-reinforced nylons while the Ooni Pro has brown wooden handles fit for the color and design of the oven

The doors of these ovens are very different as well. They both have a cool-to-touch handle but they are designed for different functions.

The Ooni Fyra’s door has a peephole that lets you look inside the oven without opening the door. It also features a hook that lets you hang it on the oven when it is opened.

As for the Ooni Pro, it has two different doors that you can use for different purposes. The postbox-style opening of the first door allows you to slide the pizza inside without opening it.

It is also designed to have the smallest possible opening to let Ooni’s 14-inch pizza peel inside while keeping the heat in the interior of the oven.

The other door included with the Ooni Pro has an opening in the middle of it to let you look inside while also having a built-in thermometer that accurately tells you the temperature inside the oven.

Of course, both ovens have kept the portable, foldable legs that can be found in every Ooni pizza oven for portability and ease when moving the ovens around.

Features

The Ooni Fyra is a relatively lightweight pizza oven that weighs just around 10 kilograms or 22 pounds. Compared to the 48-pound or 22-kilogram Ooni Pro, the Fyra is much easier to move.

They are both made with 430-grade stainless steel which makes them both resistant to any weather and prevents corrosion.

The finish on the ovens is what separates the two. The Ooni Fyra has a powder-coated finish which only makes it greater for heat and rain resistance while the Ooni Pro is just plain stainless steel.

The high-grade steel that composes both ovens is great in retaining heat so you can be sure that all the power needed to cook a pizza stays inside the ovens.

In terms of insulation and airflow, the Ooni Fyra and the Ooni Pro have different ways. The Ooni Fyra depends largely on the material and the doors.

Ooni Fyra

It keeps the heat inside by making a closed compartment with just enough airflow to keep the heat radiating inside the oven.

The Ooni Pro, on the other hand, has two ways to let air circulate inside the oven and both airflows include the help of the chimney.

See, when the Ooni Pro is closed, it needs more airflow in order to keep the fire at the back going. So it has a ceiling vent that you can open so the air goes directly to the chimney.

However, if the oven is opened without any doors in the way, the airflow can sometimes be too much. Ooni designed the Ooni Pro to limit this airflow when the door is opened.

You can close the ceiling vent to prevent the air from coming out directly to the chimney. While the ceiling vent is closed, there are two side air channels that gather air and use a channel to transfer out to the chimney.

The fuel attachment and baking stones of the ovens are also very different. Well, not that different when it comes to the baking stone but still, they are not the same.

The fuel attachment of the Ooni Fyra comes in as a pellet hopper. Initially, you can put the wood pellets inside the attachment directly.

But when the time comes for refilling, the pellet hopper is handy so you do not have to touch the piping hot fuel attachment.

The Ooni Pro wood and charcoal burner attachment can be filled and refilled as easy as opening the door at the back of the oven and dropping the wood or charcoal to keep the oven running.

The baking stone of the ovens are both made out of a strong, resistant, and great heat retaining capability in the form of a cordierite stone.

The Ooni Fyra cordierite baking stone gives you 12 inches of space for cooking while the Ooni Pro has 4 separate tiles of baking stone that can cook pizzas as large as 16 inches.

The Ooni pro baking stones are slightly thicker with 15 millimeters while the Ooni Fyra’s is just over 10 millimeters.

Either way, the baking stones can heat up pretty fast and they retain heat for a long time making them great in cooking amazing crusts.

The Ooni Fyra wins in portability. First of all, because of its weight, you can carry the Fyra around and place it even in small tabletops.

The chimney, pellet hopper, and the door also add in making the pizza oven portable as they can all fit inside the oven which means that the oven in its simplest form is basically a shell.

The Ooni Pro has a protective cover to prevent damages from rain and sunlight and you can also use that to carry the oven around.

Although you might want to move in short distances with the Ooni Pro especially when you are carrying it by hand alone. 22 kilograms would not be a problem if you have a car.

Power and Performance

Both ovens can go up the 932 degrees Fahrenheit requirement to cook an amazing Neapolitan-style Pizza in just 60 seconds.

However, they can reach that temperature in different timeframes. The Ooni Fyra can reach 932 degrees Fahrenheit in just 15 minutes with wood pellets as fuel.

The Ooni Pro needs around 20 minutes to reach that temperature using any fuel that is compatible with the Ooni Pro. The gas burner would heat up the Pro sooner and the wood or charcoal burner can take a longer time.

Once the Ooni Pro heats up, however, the insulation and airflow take the game to a whole new level. It leaves the oven hot for a long time and maintaining the same amount of heat.

The different ways of ventilation in the Ooni Pro is very great since you can have control of how much air gets in and out of the oven.

Ooni Fyra Review

Cooking with Ooni Fyra

The Ooni Fyra has a vent at the back for the airflow and only the chimney helps it for proper airflow inside it. The chimney can be controlled to keep the air circulating with the right flow.

The baking stones of the ovens perform like what you would expect them to. They are very great at retaining heat and they absorb moisture very well.

You would not think of the Ooni Fyra to be as powerful as it is. It is true that great things come in small packages because the heat that the Ooni Fyra brings is really amazing.

The Ooni Pro is a large oven so the amazing thing about it is that it heats up quickly even with a large interior, thanks to its amazing ventilation and airflow dynamics.

Cooking With The Ovens

Using the wood and charcoal fuel attachment with the Ooni Pro is by far the best way to cook pizza in it. The smoke from the fuel gives so much flavor to the pizza.

You might want to consider buying the separate gas fuel attachment if you do not want that smoky flavor in other recipes.

The Ooni Fyra has a great wood pellet hopper and fuel attachment that makes the same great tasting pizzas in just 60 seconds or sometimes even less.

Make sure to keep an eye on your pizza as these ovens are very powerful. You will need to turn the pizza around every once in a while to prevent burnt areas.

The peephole on the Ooni Fyra is helpful in this while the Ooni Pro has a large opening at its door for you to see what’s happening inside.

The main difference between the two is the variety of food that you can cook in them. The Ooni Pro has an amazingly large interior so you would not have a problem placing other cookware inside.

The Ooni Fyra, on the other hand, has a hard time reducing the heat and although that is not necessarily a bad thing, it can be difficult to cook other recipes in such great heat.

Conclusion

There are a lot of pizza ovens in the market but nothing is quite as powerful and amazing as the ones that Ooni produces.

The Ooni Fyra is a nice budget wood pellet pizza oven whilst the Ooni Pro is an amazing multi-fueled pizza oven. If you are looking for some ample amount of cooking space along with some excellent fuel options then go with the Pro.

But if you just want a nice wood pellet pizza oven then you should incline more towards the Fyra. Since there are no serious cons about any of the pizza ovens, I think both of them would perform well but it depends on what you expect out of these ovens.

Ooni is really the best at what they produce and these two amazing ovens are the testimony to that so make sure to check them out.

Also, check out our other Ooni product reviews and get your own Ooni pizza oven from their website to get benefits such as a 3-year warranty and a 60-day return policy.

That simply means that you can return the product in the first 60 days that you have bought it and get your money back if you are not satisfied with the product – which is rare.
