Ooni is a very great company that produces pizza ovens fueled by wood, charcoal, pellets, and propane gas. The Ooni Fyra and Ooni Koda are two different ovens with amazing features.
Since the ovens are fueled by different resources, it is only right to compare which one is better and which one does a great job in making pizzas – spoiler alert! They both can.
Ooni is the best in what they do and that is making innovative improvements to cater to people who want to make their own pizzas at home.
They make the best portable pizza ovens that produce amazing pizzas. It does not matter if you are new or a professional in making pizza, Ooni always comes through.
The Ooni Fyra is their latest addition to their wood-fired pizza ovens and it has already taken the pizza cooking world by storm.
It is a small pizza oven with a powerful cooking capability and the same can be said with the Ooni Koda, without a doubt.
The Ooni Koda is gas-powered which means that the firepower it produces is more consistent and can go head-to-head with the other pizza ovens in the market.

The Ooni Koda has been released prior and it has also been garnering amazing reviews. Read on in this comparison post to see which one fits you best.

Ooni Fyra vs Ooni Koda: The Design
The Ooni Fyra is designed to have powerful heat inside and amazing insulation. However, its overall look is not far from its predecessors and that is not a bad thing.
The design of Ooni pizza ovens work and there is no need to change it. The noticeable addition to the Ooni Fyra is the detachable chimney.
Although chimneys have been introduced in earlier Ooni products such as the Ooni Karu and Ooni 3, the chimney of Ooni Fyra has two separable parts for portability.
There is also a chimney-like addition to the Ooni Fyra found at the back which is not really a chimney but a pellet hopper. It has a built-in cover to keep the fire from going out of the hopper.

There is a vent for proper ventilation since the pellet hopper is covered. The vent allows air to come from the back and enters the oven to fire up the heat inside.
The foldable legs found in most Ooni products are also kept with the design of the Ooni Fyra. Although the legs are a bit longer in the Ooni Fyra to make more air circulation between the oven itself and the tabletop.
The Ooni Fyra has a door with a cool-to-touch handle made out of reinforced glass. Therefore, you can open or close the oven without burning your hands.
The door is installed with an innovative hook so it hangs at the bottom of the opening of the oven making it great when you move the pizza inside the oven.
The door does not get in the way and you do not need additional space on your table to place it on. Ooni pizza ovens usually do not need doors since they can retain heat properly but adding one is not that of a bad thing either.
The door also has a cutout right beside the handle that serves as a peephole. The one-inch cutout peephole is great for literally keeping an eye at the fire inside the oven without opening it.
The Ooni Koda, on the other hand, is as simple and as portable as an oven can be. Unlike the Ooni Fyra, it does not have a chimney so it is basically just like a turtle shell.

However, it features heat vents underneath to create the proper airflow that the oven needs. It is like a chimney but rather it is made to be compact and truly one with the oven.
As if the Ooni Koda can no longer be more portable, of course, it features the classic Ooni foldable legs to make it more compact. Now the turtle has folded its legs inside so it looks like a shell alone.
The Ooni Koda also lacks a door but it does not really need a door to keep the heat inside the oven. The back of the oven contains the built-in ignition and a pipe that connects to the fuel source.
Ooni really does highlight portability with their small ovens but do not get fooled as these small ovens have powerful performances. We’ll talk about that further in this comparison, moving on…
Ooni Fyra vs Ooni Koda: The Features
In this category, we will see the technical features of both ovens as well as the features that separate them from other ovens and from each other.
The Ooni Fyra is a very light pizza oven. With a total weight of only 22 pounds or 10 kilograms, you can move it from one place to the other without hassle.
The body of the oven is made out of 430-grade stainless steel that has a powder-coated finish on its shell. This makes the oven resistant to sunlight and rain so outdoor cooking is very great with the Ooni Fyra.
It has a cordierite baking stone that measures 13.7 inches wide and 0.4 inches thick. It is perfect in retaining heat and can cook up to 13 inches of pizza.
Ooni recommends 12 inches of pizza to be cooked inside the Ooni Fyra so you still have space to move it around, and trust me, you will need it.
The cordierite baking stone heats up pretty quickly, retains the heat, and heats up evenly to have perfectly cooked surfaces.
The chimney of the Ooni Fyra has a controllable airflow which means that you can regulate the heat radiating inside with the airflow and somehow control the heat.
It can be detached from the oven and separated into two parts which you can fit inside the oven. Speaking of detachable parts, the pellet hopper can also be removed and placed inside the oven.
It also has a separate scoop that can also act as a cap for the pellet hopper. With just four to five scoops, the pellet hopper can be filled entirely and use the scoop as a cap to prevent spilling the pellets.
The door of the Ooni Fyra can also be reversed meaning after you have put all the parts inside the oven, you can flip the door and it will still hold on to the oven and the handle will be inside making the oven even more portable.
The Ooni Koda is made out of grade cold-rolled carbon steel shell with a powder-coated finish just like the Ooni Fyra. It has an aluminum front that adds up to its sleek design.

The cordierite baking stone measures 13.25 inches and is 10 millimeters thick. It functions just like any other cordierite stone in retaining heat and making an evenly-cooked surface on any recipe.
The Ooni Koda is a slightly lighter oven weighing 20 pounds. With the protective coating and high-grade steel, the Ooni Koda along with other Ooni Pizza Ovens is perfect for outdoor cooking.
Since it is fueled by propane gas, there is a risk that the gas may leak. Ooni made up for this danger by installing a built-in Flame Safety Device (FSD).
The FSD automatically cuts off the gas supply when the flames in the oven are put out even if the gas tank itself is still open.
Ooni Fyra vs Ooni Koda: Performance
The Ooni Fyra can get up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit in just under 15 minutes. This is an impressive feat for ovens that use wood pellets alone.
With that heat, the oven can cook a Neapolitan-style Pizza in just 60 minutes or even shorter. The insulation in the oven is very great which helps in heating the oven up quickly.

With the chimney and its controllable airflow, the fire inside the oven is greatly circulated with the help of the vent on the back of the oven.
The airflow that leads the fire at the ceiling of the oven essentially radiates the heat to evenly distribute it inside the oven.
The cordierite baking stone heats up with the oven which means that the temperature of the oven is radiated into the stone and it makes it more evenly heated.
You can cook 12-inch pizzas in the oven with much room to turn the pizza around in case the oven flames get too high up burning the side of the pizza.

Ooni also made an improvement where the Ooni Fyra uses a lot fewer wood pellets for a lot more power. You only need to refill the pellet hopper every 20 minutes and it will keep on heating up.
With a cooking time of 60 seconds or less, you can make a lot of pizza with the Ooni Fyra in that 20 minutes’ worth of fuel.
The Ooni Koda is not out of the game yet. It can also heat up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit in just 15 minutes. Making it possible to cook Neapolitan-style Pizzas in it in just 60 seconds.
The instant gas ignition really helps in making the oven heat up quickly. Along with the heat vents underneath the oven, the fire really gets up there.
The Ooni Koda is compatible with large propane tanks as well as 1-pound tanks with the help of a separate gas adapter.
Cooking in the Ovens
15 minutes of preheating will give you just enough time to prepare a couple of pizzas so make sure that you have everything ready before heating up the Ooni Fyra.
It is true that once it heats up, it can cook pizzas in under 60 seconds. Sometimes it is possible for it to make a perfectly cooked pizza in just 45 seconds.
This is caused by the powerful flames that the Ooni Fyra produces. However, you need to constantly turn the pizza inside to make sure that it is not burned.

An average of ten seconds should be enough for one side to face the fire before you turn the pizza around. The peephole is really useful so you can see the interior without opening the oven.
Refilling the pellet hopper is not that hard and as mentioned above, you do not have to refill it every few minutes.
The fire that the Ooni Fyra produces is so powerful that the cordierite stone inside cleans itself by pyrolyzing the residues that got stuck on it.
As for the Ooni Koda, it makes it so easy to see the pizza inside without a door that gets in the way.
Don’t get it wrong, this is not a complaint about the door of the Ooni Fyra, it is just better to see the entire interior of the oven while the pizza is cooking.
The best part with the Ooni Koda is that the fire and heat inside can be easily controlled with the knob at the back. This means that you can cook different recipes at different temperatures in the oven.
Conclusion
Ooni is really the best at what they do and the great thing about them is they are not done yet. They keep on producing amazing pizza ovens such as the Ooni Fyra and the Ooni Koda.
