For me, it is best to go with fresh mozzarella cheese because it gives a counter taste to the tangy flavors later on. It makes an excellent gooey and salty taste that goes well with the basil.
You can add other types of cheese if you want a different taste and consistency, but you need to keep the recipe’s mozzarella cheese. So get the best quality that you can find for the pizza.
For this recipe, you will also need about eight pieces of sourdough bread, or you can adjust the number according to the number of people you are going to feed with the sandwiches.
You can also change the type of bread you want to use, but I think sourdough bread has the right texture, taste, and overall quality to mix with the minty and tangy flavors in this recipe.
You will need to get something with a thicker consistency for the pizza sauce than the one that you usually use on your pizza. It is either that, or you can add some tomato paste to the sauce.
You will only need a tablespoon of sugar and a teaspoon of olive oil and salt as for the other ingredients. Other things are for the frying or toasting part, such as the melted butter and garlic.
Get a decent number of basil leaves and adjust it according to the number of leaves you want to put in each sandwich. You can go with the safest, which is to put just three whole leaves/pizza.

There are some advantages that you can get from each of the cheeses. The grated or shredded cheese is better at melting as it evenly and quickly melts over the other ingredients.
It guarantees you that you will have the right balance of cheese on every bite. However, the cheese will also melt too quickly and sometimes make the bread moist due to the same advantage.
Sliced cheese is better if you do not want the bread to become soggy. However, you will need to be patient in melting this type of cheese as it has a longer melting point than shredded cheese.
What Is The Best Cheese For This Recipe?
There are many types of cheese that you can use for this recipe. You can choose between the more common cheddar cheese or mozzarella cheese to make the best grilled cheese.
My personal favorite is the sliced mozzarella cheese, but if you want to go with a saltier and more gooey choice, you can go with the shredded cheddar cheese for your sandwich.
