I think Ooni Karu 16 cooks better than Bertello Pizza Oven?

Ooni Karu 16 is the newest release from the Ooni Pizza Oven and it is probably one of my favorite pizza ovens from Ooni.

The Ooni Karu 16 and Bertello Pizza Oven comparison will help you make a better purchase decision.

If you want to know why Why I think Ooni Karu 16 cooks better than Bertello Pizza Oven then keep on reading the review.

Since there are many different options to choose from when it comes to buying pizza ovens, it is most likely that you have been a little confused as to which pizza oven you should get.

With this comparison, you will no longer need to deal with those many features as these two pizza ovens have everything you need to cook the best pizzas with the crispiest crusts.

Ooni has been making a lot of portable pizza ovens that can cook 12-inch pizzas.

However, they have released larger versions of these pizza ovens that allow you to cook large pizzas.

The Bertello pizza oven is one of the most popular portable pizza ovens on the market.

It has been featured in the show Shark Tank and was proven to be very reliable in making pizzas.

Since these two pizza ovens have great backgrounds and good reputations, we have decided to compare the two to see which one has better features, performance, and overall quality.

Setup And Assembly of Karu 16 and Bertello Pizza Oven

My favorite thing about the Bertello pizza oven is that it comes fully assembled.

You do not need to assemble any parts as the pizza oven has its parts installed in the cooking chamber.

This is the case with most portable pizza ovens as there are not so many parts made with these kinds of pizza ovens.

The Ooni Karu 16, on the other hand, needs a bit of assembly.

The chimney of the pizza oven needs installation on top of the pizza oven.

You can easily do this by placing the chimney on the dedicated hole and then with a twist, it gets locked in place.

There are also other parts such as the wood and charcoal burner tray.

There are dedicated spots for each part, so you will not have to struggle to assemble the pizza oven and its parts.

I barely needed the guide included in the pizza oven, and within 15 minutes, the Karu 16 was ready to be fired up.

Just set the pizza ovens up on a sturdy table and cook your pizzas.

One important procedure that you need to remember is to make sure that you remove the residues and contaminants inside them by firing them up for at least an hour and letting them burn.

Build Quality And Materials

What separates these pizza ovens from other pizza ovens of other companies is the durability and sturdiness of the building structure.

That is mainly because of the materials used.

The Bertello pizza oven all stainless steel, which is a pretty durable material.

It also absorbs a lot of heat quickly, which means that it does not take too long to heat the insides.

Align with it is an elegant black finish with powder-coated steel.

This is aesthetically pleasing, and helps make sure that the pizza oven does not look too dirty with soot.

See, you can use wood and charcoal with this pizza oven, which means that there might be soot gathering on the pizza oven, but that is hardly noticeable because of the matte black finish.

The Ooni Karu 16 has a stronger carbon steel material, which has a black powder finish making it safe to use or leave outdoors in the rain.

I do suggest using a cover when you leave either of these two pizza ovens outside.

The materials used in making the Karu 16 are completely resistant to rust and corrosion.

With its insulation, the Karu 16 can cook at any temperature and weather.

There is a temperature-resistant finish which means it is not affected by the weather outside.

So the build quality and materials used in these pizza ovens are pretty much the same.

It stays unaffected from rust, corrosion, animals, insects, sunlight, and heavy rain all in all.

The Unique Features

The Bertello pizza oven boasts a durable build and many users vouch for it.

It has a very sturdy look and has a compact design that allows you to bring it anywhere you want.

The same goes with the Karu 16 as it is durable.

The Ooni Karu 16 has better insulation and you are going to see a lot more features on the oven than Bertello.

Speaking of the legs, these two pizza ovens have foldable legs.

Four legs support the Bertello pizza oven while the Karu has three so the Bertello pizza feels more stable.

But in my opinion, the stability is the same with both the ovens.

The advantage of the Karu 16 is the new features that you cannot find in any pizza oven, not even with other Ooni pizza ovens.

There is the ViewFlame technology which is a new feature.

This is a full glass door design that allows you to look inside the pizza oven without actually opening the door.

That way, the temperature inside will not be disrupted while you cook.

This new door is also hinged, which means that you do not have to place it on a table when you open it.

Because of the design of the Bertello pizza oven, it does not need a door.

That means that you can also look into the interior of the pizza oven while you cook so you can see and manage the pizza inside. This ensures the pizza does not burn.

The Karu 16 also has a digital thermometer which has a new design.

You can see it at the front of the pizza oven, and you can read it even if you fully pull the door down.

The Fuel

One of the major advantages of these pizza ovens is that you can use multiple fuels.

They can cook with both functionality and flavor in mind without switching the burners.

The Karu 16 has a burner attachment that allows you to cook with both wood and charcoal.

That means that you get that authentic smoke flavor with the help of a single burner attachment.

You can also do this with the Bertello pizza oven as it comes with a burner attachment that can cook with wood and charcoal.

You can also buy separate burners for this pizza oven.

The company offers a gas burner attachment for the Bertello pizza oven which is very helpful in creating consistent heat.

There is also another unique burner attachment that you can get.

The “Wood Burning Tray For Propane Gas Burner” attachment is another burner for the Bertello pizza oven that allows you to use wood and propane gas at the same time.

That means that you get consistent and powerful heat from the gas burner while also adding a little bit of smoky wood flavor into the pizza with the help of the wood fuel.

Cooking In The Pizza Ovens

Using these pizza ovens is pretty easy as you only need to fire them up and wait for them to reach the maximum temperature.

Both pizza ovens can reach over 930 degrees Fahrenheit.

That allowed the pizza ovens to cook my pizza in just 90 seconds.

There, I did not have to wait that long, but I did need to keep an eye on the pizza as the intense heat can burn it very quickly.

I recommend investing in a good pizza peel to make sure that you can turn the pizzas around in the pizza ovens before they burn.

Each company also sells its pizza peels so you can get that.

The only difference I found between the two pizza ovens when it came to cooking pizzas is the size.

The Karu 16 was able to cook large pizzas compared to the Bertello pizza oven.

The Bertello pizza oven could only cook 12-inch pizzas, and it does not have a lot of room to spare.

There is only a little bit of space for me to control or turn the pizza when I need to.

The Karu 16, on the other hand, has a lot of room, and despite me cooking large 16-inch pizzas in it, I was still able to easily turn the pizzas with enough room, so it was a lot better.

The Karu 16 has a much accurate thermometer inside to tell the temperature making this the Number #1 reason why I liked the Ooni Karu 16 pizza oven much better than Bertello Oven.

The Ooni Karu 16 gave us a pizza with leopard spotting and a nice crispy crust.

The same results were seen on the Bertello Pizza Oven, just that the Ooni Karu 16 Pizza Oven is larger and has a lot more features.

Which Pizza Oven Is Better, Bertello Or Ooni?

In my experience with these two pizza ovens, I would still go with the Ooni pizza oven.

It has newer features and is also a little better at cooking pizzas since it has great materials.

The carefully selected materials made to form this amazing pizza oven helps in making the best features. That way, the pizza oven puts out more power.

It is also easier to use as the features of the Ooni pizza oven are tailored to help the user more conveniently. That is also what you get with the Bertello pizza oven.

My issue with the Bertello pizza oven is that it has not improved in the past years.

Do not get me wrong, it is still an amazing pizza oven, but it is pretty basic compared to Ooni.

Which Is The Best Ooni Pizza Oven?

As for the writing of this post, the best pizza oven from Ooni is the Ooni Karu 16.

It is one of the larger models from the company, which means that it can cook larger pizzas.

It has the most advanced features such as the digital thermometer and the ViewFlame technology.

This feature is unique to the Karu 16 and you cannot find it even in other Ooni ovens.

While the Koda 16 is a great pizza oven using propane gas, it does not stick to the promise of portability from Ooni. However, it can match the Karu 16 when it comes to power.

It also has the most unique flames produced by two burners. There is an L-shaped flame system in the Koda 16, and it is also unique to this pizza oven.

Conclusion

When it comes to pizza ovens, there are many things that you should look for.

The Ooni Karu 16 and the Bertello pizza oven are great examples of what you should get for your money.
