There have been so many times that I have tried reheating a pizza inside a microwave oven, and it has been nothing but a failure.
So, in this guide, I will let you know how to reheat pizza in a microwave oven without getting soggy base. This technique will always give you a crispy crust and it is the right way to reheat your leftover pizza slices.
I still prefer heating my pizzas in the pan as it is a lot easier, and I do not need to go and switch on the convection microwave on your IFB, LG, Whirpool microwave or any brand.
If you have not tried reheating your pizza inside on a pan, then do check out this post where we give step-by-step instructions on how you can reheat your pizza on a pan.
I think once I discovered the hack on how to reheat your pizza on a pan, I never cranked up my microwave for this purpose ever again.
It’s easier and way faster to do it in the pan. I can even heat the base of the slice for as long as I need and make it real crispy, which gives the pizza slice a great taste.

But, there are times, when you do not have many options, and you want to toss your pizza inside the microwave.
So, this time when I ordered cheese pizza and had leftover pizza slices from Domino’s pizza this is what I decided to do- reheat them in my convection microwave oven.
Well, if you find yourself in a similar situation, then we have a hack that can help you reheat your pizza without getting a soggy mess that happens when a pizza slice is reheated inside a microwave.
It is one of the best way to reheat pizza in a convection microwave and makes it quick. You can get a crispy crust if you use a pizza stone or maybe you can put it on a cast iron pan on high temperature for a few minutes.
In this method, I reheat pizza in a convection microwave with water , warm or cold water it does not matter, but not too high on the temperature.
Steps to be followed-
1. Take out the leftover pizza slices or cold pizza from the fridge. Usually, I do not keep leftover slices in the deep freezer as I tend to finish eating my pizza leftovers within a day or so, especially with deep-dish pizza.
But if you plan on keeping your pizza for longer then I recommend that you wrap the slices in an aluminum foil/ freezer bag and store it in the freezer as this way, they would not spoil.
2. Now, leave the slices outside for an hour or so, until they attain average room temperature. This way, the pizza is heated uniformly, and it heats up faster.
3. The next step would be to place your pizza slice properly in a microwave-safe plate or a pizza stone inside the microwave for about 30-second intervals, along with water.
You place the cup of water so that the cheese melts perfectly and the top of the pizza is soft in comparison to the bottom, which is crisp.
This way, you would not be making the toppings or the cheese dry, which can happen if you place the pizza slice inside the microwave and cook it for too long.
Keep an eye on the pizza, and just when the cheese starts boiling, you need to remove the slice out from the microwave oven. Once the pizza is cooked, you do not have to extend it too much.
This way, you would get a perfectly reheated slice of pizza. This goes with deep-dish pizza, Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s or any pizza you have.
But, how long do you reheat pizza in a microwave? Well, I usually reheat mine for about 2-3 minutes. That is my regular for Domino’s and Papa John’s regular pizza but it takes longer with deep-dish pizza.
If you are reheating a frozen pizza then warm it down or thaw properly and then reheat it for about the same time. Mind the intervals every 30 seconds and extend for a few seconds as well if you want the pizza to be crispier.
If you have a frozen pizza crust then you can reheat the frozen pizza directly in the oven for about a 3-4 minutes. The same goes with cold pizza but the pizza should not be too cold, like room temperature should do.
How long you reheat pizza in a microwave oven also depends on the thickness of the crust so I recommend that you keep checking on your slice of pizza after every minute until it is cooked or reheated.
The time I recommended above is based on my experience with reheating Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Papa John’s regular pizzas so you can get an idea of how long you reheat pizza in a microwave oven.
If you have a small microwave oven, then you can reheat only one slice of pizza at a time.
The pizza base might not get cooked with the crisp that you want when you reheat it in a pan, so you might want to take out your pan and place the slice on it so that you can heat the base and get it all nice and crispy.
Reheating the pizza slice in the microwave with water is the best way to reheat pizza without getting soggy crust as the water warms to evaporate and will only melt the cheese.
I have observed this even in other brands like Whirpool microwave oven and LG.
This is the best and the right way to get a pizza slice done to perfection.
If you want the bottom of the slice to be crispy in your microwave pizza then you can use parchment paper instead of pizza stone or even a baking tray.
Reheating pizza slices properly without these would result in a softer crust or even a soggy pizza at times so, in order to get that crisp crust, you can even reheat your pizza slices in a skillet.

The only downside with reheating a day-old pizza slice in a convection microwave is that you need to use a baking tray or hot pan to get the base crispy.
If you are doing this, then make sure that you have the pan on a high flame since all you want to do is get a crispy base.
Getting a crispy base is one of the reasons I prefer the pan to do the complete process as not only is it convenient, I can reheat at least two slices at a time, and things get faster and easier.
So, go ahead and store any leftover pizzas that you have since this trick would avoid them from being all soggy and keep them relatively crispier.
Oven setting for pizza
I usually go for the microwave setting to quickly reheat my pizza slices on my IFB oven. My microwave just has option where I get the reheat button and set it for 2-3 minutes.
If you are not sure about the oven setting for pizza or oven setting on how to reheat pizza then just make sure you keep checking it every one minute so it does not burn.
The best method to get a reheated pizza slice with nice pizza crust along with some gooey cheese within a couple of minutes is when you use a cast-iron skillet or a simple nonstick skillet.
It is my favorite method and makes the reheating process for a single slice of pizza easy. It is always a good idea to go with an easy way to reheat a pizza and to me, it is when I use a frying pan or a cast-iron pan.

I like the idea of getting a crispy crust on the leftover pizza. I don’t like it when the crust gets all hard and chewy, so hopefully, that would solve that issue. Next time I get pizza, I’ll make sure to give that a try, so I can get the best results possible when reheating it.
