Cooking pizzas can be hard if you do not have the right tools. However, you do not need the best pizza oven to do so as we can teach you how to cook pizza on a Vision grill.
Vision grill is one of the top companies that produce Kamado-style grills. These are grills based on the ancient Chinese cooking method that uses clay to cook your food with radiant heat.
Nowadays, we have advanced Kamado grills that you can use without the hassle of dealing with too much heat.
You can stand beside these grills without feeling any heat from the grill itself.

Cooking in them involves a lot of heat, but they retain it so well, so you do not burn yourself. The great thing about these grills is that they can produce convection heat to create an oven.
They can be used to bake your favorite foods, such as pizzas. While cooking itself is easy, you still need to get the proper setup to prevent burning the pizza crust.
So here, we will be teaching you some of the best ways to make your pizza on a Vision Kamado grill. Follow the steps and use the most convenient method that you think will fit your style.
Vision Kamado Grill Pizza Kit
Vision Grills produces pizza kits that their users can buy and use to cook pizzas. The great thing about this pizza kit is that you can use it on any type of grill because it is simple.
Unlike other pizza kits from other brands, there are no special parts on this pizza kit.
It only consists of a pizza stone with a handle, a wooden pizza peel, a cutter, and a mesh pizza screen.
You can get something like this which is elevated cooking grates or vision grills have their own pizza kit you get it in case you do not have pizza steel.
Step 1: Set Up The Grill
If you have your pizza dough, pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings already prepared, you can start by preparing the Vision grill for cooking pizzas. You do not need much on this process.
First, you need to load up the firebox of the Vision grill with charcoal and then light them up.
Once they are all burning, create a hole in the center of the firebox to prevent any burns,
To do this, get a charcoal manager and then push the charcoals to the side of the firebox, making a donut-shaped formation. Place the grill grates in position and then proceed.
Step 2: Preheat The Grill
Place the pizza stone on the grill grate and then preheat the grill with the pizza stone.
Since Vision grills are easy to control, set the temperature at the bottom to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Close the lid to create convection heat inside the grill and allow it to preheat for at least 15 minutes. The pizza stone will be hotter, but that is what you are aiming for when cooking.
Step 3: Cook The Pizza
Place the pizza on the mesh pizza screen and then transfer the pizza to the grill.
Close the grill and let the pizza cook for about 8 to 10 minutes before opening the grill and checking the pizza.
The mesh pizza screen is perfect for creating airflow right under the pizza so that the crust does not burn quickly.
This also helps in making the pizza crust crispier once cooked.
Once the crust is golden brown, and the cheese is bubbling, remove the pizza from the grill and then let it rest for 5 minutes.
Cut the pizza with the cutter included on the kit and then serve.
Cooking With A Pizza Stone Only
If you do not have the pizza kit from Vision, you can cook the pizza on the grill with a pizza stone or pizza steel. This is pretty easy and is faster than the first method.
They even work well with indoor ovens or toaster ovens.
However, what makes it more tedious is the setup or the preparation itself.
You will need to elevate the cooking grate as the pizza stone will easily break if you place it on the grill grate.
So the first thing you need to do is prepare a stand that will elevate the pizza stone from the grill grate to prevent it from breaking.
There are two main ways to do this part of the process.
Method 1: Use the elevated grill
You can use the elevated grill which I found on Amazon and place your pizza steel on top of it, else you can use the method mentioned below!
Method 2: Fire Bricks
The same concept goes with this method as you do use another tool to elevate the pizza stone.
The key is to not let the pizza stone get to the grill grate where there is direct heat or flames.
Fire bricks are simple bricks used to retain heat from the firebox; all you need to do is set them up, so the fire bricks are properly balanced and let the pizza stone sit on them.
I prefer this method as the fire bricks also help in retaining the heat from the grill. They absorb the heat from the firebox and then release it back into the grill to create an even heating.
Cooking Directly On The Grill
If you do not have time to set up the pizza kit or the pizza stone on your Vision grill, then you can cook right on the grill grates.
This is a slightly different and trickier way to cook, however.
All you need to do is cook the pizza on the grill grate but in a slightly different way. You have to get the pizza dough ready for this process as you will need it to be sturdy enough.
Step 1: Cook The Dough
Once you have kneaded and shaped the dough, preheat the grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and then cook the pizza dough directly on the grill grates until it has browned underneath.
This will take around 5 minutes or sometimes less, so make sure to check the dough. After that, flip the crust and then put all the other ingredients on the cooked side of the pizza crust.
Step 2: Cook The Pizza
While the other side of the crust is cooking, arrange the sauce, cheese, and other toppings of the pizza on the crystal. Do it quickly, or else the Vision grill will lose too much heat.
Close the grill again and let the pizza cook for 7 to 10 minutes until the crust is brown slightly and the cheese melts to perfection.
The best way to protect the crust from being burned is to place a flame blocker under the grill grate.
That way, the flames will not go up and over the grill grates and fry or burn the crust.
Cooking pizza is fun as you can try to do it with any appliance that you have. As long as that cooking appliance can get hot enough to make the pizza crispy and delicious.
Vision grills are not the most common grills to cook your pizza on, but they do a great job. They can create crispy crusts and beautifully cooked toppings.
So, this proves that you can cook a pizza on a grill.
Just make sure to follow the instructions above and select the method that works best for you.
