Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe Using Fresh Tomatoes In Crock Pot

March 10, 2021 by Shrey Leave a Comment

This Pizza Sauce Homemade Fresh Tomatoes In Crock Pot post will help you make the best pizza sauce for your next pizza night. It is delicious and is very easy to make, so read on.

Usually, I would advise against cooking the pizza sauce ahead of time. However, there is nothing wrong with doing this, as it can give you more time to get to the consistency you want.

Pizza sauce is responsible for blending all the other ingredients and their flavors on a pizza. It gives you the base of the flavor to combine them in your mouth for a great-tasting pizza.

Using a crock-pot is perhaps the best way to do this since it can give you enough space and even heating for long cooking processes. It is very easy and convenient to use at home.

One great thing that you can take away from this is that you can edit the recipe. Since you are making your pizza sauce at home, you can put or remove ingredients from the recipe.

So by using this recipe as your basis, you can make the best pizza sauce that is most familiar with your palette. Read on as we see how to make your pizza sauce in a crock-pot.

What You Will Need

This is a very simple recipe, and everything you need should be readily available. You can get fresh tomatoes from the nearest supermarket, and you can select the type you want.

For this recipe, I used about 15 pieces of large Roma tomatoes. These tomatoes are my favorite because they have the right consistency and concentration that I want for a pizza sauce.

Other ingredients such as water, vinegar, salt, and olive oil should not be too hard to find. So as you can see, this recipe is straightforward, and the ingredients are usually available to most households.

This recipe can produce up to 15 servings, so if you plan to make one for smaller batches, you can limit the number of tomatoes and other ingredients you use.

Get your stove ready and the crock-pot by washing it thoroughly or use it to put the tomatoes in when you are washing them. From there, you can start with the cooking process.

Procedure

Step 1: Wash The Tomatoes

It doesn’t matter where you got the tomatoes; you should always wash them before proceeding with the cooking process to eliminate the chemicals on the tomatoes’ skin.

Get a bucket of water, and then pour a little bit of white vinegar into the water. If you have a large bucket, pour somewhere around half a cup of vinegar into it and then stir it well.

Put all the tomatoes in the mixture, and then use your hands to wash them. This will help remove the chemicals used in preserving or processing the tomatoes before selling them.

Step 2: Mix The Ingredients

After washing the tomatoes, cut them in half and then place them in a blender food processor. Add the water and olive oil and then blend them until the mixture is smooth.

The consistency of the mixture should be smooth so that you can spread easily. If you want the pizza sauce to be thicker, you can adjust the consistency later in the cooking process.

Do not put the seasoning yet, as they might break down too early and will not mix evenly into the tomatoes. So set the mixture aside and get to the stove to prepare the crock-pot.

Step 3: Cook The Pizza Sauce

Dry the crock-pot by wiping it with a paper towel. Do not let it dry on the stove as the bottom might heat up too much, and burn the pizza sauce’s bottom once you pour it in the pot.

Get the tomato mixture and then pour it carefully into the crock-pot. Get the heat high and then put the salt and vinegar into the pot and then mix it well until the mixture boils.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and then let the mixture simmer for about 1 to 2 hours. Stir occasionally to make sure that the bottom part does not burn and harden during cooking.

After the tomatoes have extracted all the juices, turn off the heat and then pour the sauce into a large bowl. You can also let the mixture stay in the crock-pot to let it cool down.

Step 4: Puree The Sauce

Pour the cooked mixture into a blender and pulse it a few times before blending it. Do it in batches with the blender no more than half full for each batch to control it easier.

Cover and hold the lid down while blending to make sure that the pizza sauce does not go over the blender and make a mess. Your goal is to get a very smooth sauce from the blender.

After blending the pizza sauce in batches, put them in separate containers with one container having just enough pizza sauce for one or two servings and then refrigerate them.

When the time comes that you need to cook pizzas, run warm water over the bags or containers to thaw the pizza sauce. This will make up for about ten 8-inch pizzas that need 6tbsps of sauce.

How Long Can The Pizza Sauce Last?

Depending on the way that you store the pizza sauce, its lifespan gets prolonged. The best way to keep the pizza sauce fresh and safe to eat is to store it in the refrigerator properly.

This is the best way to keep the pizza sauce safe to eat if you are not going to use it right away. If you do not put it in the fridge, it will only last about a few hours before it is unsafe.

Storing In The Fridge

If you are not going to use the pizza sauce right away, then pour it in bags by batches. Seal the bag, or you can even put them in a sealed container before putting them in the refrigerator.

Put them in the fridge and cook them just before the fourth day. Letting the cooked pizza sauce stay for longer than four days in the fridge will be unsafe to eat as it may have had contaminants.

The pizza sauce would still be safe to eat when stored in the fridge for four days, but the flavor and quality might not be the same or as fresh as you want it to be.

I would not suggest putting the pizza sauce in the freezer because it can suffer from freezer burns easily. This decays some part of the sauce and makes it worse after just a few days.

Can I Remove The Skin And Seeds?

It is not that big of a deal if you let the skins and seed stay on the pizza sauce. However, if you do not want them in the mixture, you can remove them after cooking the pizza sauce.

Just get a food strainer and then run the pizza sauce on it. Use a spoon to push down on the pizza sauce and screen the seeds and the skin, letting the sauce drip down on a bowl.

If you want your pizza sauce to be thicker, it is best to let the skin and seeds stay. They make the sauce thicker because of the natural pectin to do that if you want it to be thicker.

Conclusion

Pizza sauce is the base flavor for pizza, and you need to make it with the best and freshest ingredients to get the best flavor. Get your fresh tomatoes and wash them for your pizza sauce.

Not that many ingredients needed to make pizza sauce since you would want it to be mild and not the strongest flavor on your pizza. So keep the recipe simple and add more to the pizza.

Follow the instructions above, and you will be making the best pizza sauce with the freshest ingredients. Add some delicious toppings, and then you have yourself a pizza with the best sauce!
