When it comes to heavy-duty grills, the Broil King Regal XL Pro is definitely on top of the list. Broil King has released other grills and they come close to the Regal XL Pro but this grill still has its ups.
In this Broil King Regal XL Pro Review, you would learn about all the features that the grill has and the various plus points of the grill.
This grill boasts 6 burners with a side burner and a rear rotisserie burner. You do not have to worry about the number of guests because of its 1,000 square inches of total cooking area.
Having the Broil King Regal XL Pro as part of your home is a huge plus. You might have seen other grills on the market with performances like this grill but you might want to consider this review before buying.
The Regal XL Pro has amazing features that other grills do not have. We will tackle that in this review along with its performance and other reasons why you should buy this grill.
Features and Design
Rotisserie burner
The Regal XL Pro has a rear rotisserie burner with 15,000 BTU for slow-roasting chicken and other meat.
The rotisserie burner sits on a large cook box and it fills the full width of the cook box.
You can cook at least 2 whole chickens on the rotisserie burner at the same time. It is made out of a 430 stainless steel surface so you can ensure the safety and durability of the burner.
There is no direct heat applied to the burner so you can cook safely without the drippings causing flare-ups.
Side Burner
The side burner is a commercial-grade burner with 10,000 BTU powerful enough to cook any side dish – vegetables, sauce, bacon, eggs, stir fry, anything.
The side burner is integrated with the side shelf. This allows a compact space to work on so you do not have to worry about the tools as you can reach them right out of the shelf.
It does not have a cover on the burner so it keeps the heat out of the grill. That may not be helpful outdoors but when you are cooking in your house, then it is great.
Cooking with the side burner is perfect for hot weather. Without any wind to blow the heat away, it cooks all the side dishes that you need, and a 10,000 BTU is enough to cook in soft winds.
Heavy-cast Iron Cooking Grids
The 9mm grids of the Regal XL Pro are perfect for a quick rise in temperature and the heavy-cast iron feature is perfect for retaining heat.
This allows you to have those beautiful searing grids on your steaks and mains. The heavy-duty reversible cast iron also helps in the small cook box.
The grids are designed to have the perfect space for direct contact and radiating heat as well. The grids do direct contact while space lets heat radiate into the food for more flavor.
Electronic Ignition and Built-in Control Knobs
The Sure-Lite technology on the electronic ignition is ideal for a quick lighting up of the grill. An easy way to start up the grill. The Linear-Flow valves with 180 degrees of Sensi-Touch allow easy control on the temperature of each burner.
The controls also feature LED lights that are perfect for grilling at night.
Stainless Steel Side Shelves
Perfect for preparing food, the shelves offer cast aluminum condiment bins with hooks to hang your grill tools.
Pull-Out Tank Drawer
Changing your propane tank is now hassle-free with Broil King’s pull-out tank drawer. The propane tank slides right out of the drawer and you can change it quickly and easily.
The pull-out drawer is standard for Broil King’s Imperial Series with propane gas tank fuels.
Level Q Leg Levelers
The adjustable leg levelers found on the front of the grill allows the Regal XL Pro to stand on uneven surfaces.
Flame-R-Wave Technology
This is a feature also found on the Imperial Series. The main function of this technology is to distribute heat evenly.
It also vaporizes drippings to protect the burners. The vaporized drippings then turn into flavorful smoke that comes back to the surface and adds more flavor to your barbecue.
Other Features
1. Two separate stainless steel lids allow you to cook on the primary cooking surface with a certain temperature while the other side cooks on a different amount of heat.
2. Stylish stainless steel handles.
3. Two deluxe Accu-temp Thermometers
Performance
With the primary cooking surface of 750 square inches, you can easily put dozens of steak in one go. Along with the side burner and rear rotisserie burner, you can cook food for several people in no time.
It has a total of 1,000 square inches of cooking surface with 60,000 total BTU. The 6 stainless steel Dual-tube burners deliver the heat needed by the grill.
As for the standard BTU to surface area ratio, the Regal XL Pro is a little lacking on the BTU. A 1,000 square inches of the cooking surface should have 100,000 BTU.
Amazingly, the Regal XL Pro does the job with 40% less of the standard BTU, so there are no complaints about that. As for the cooking time, the lack of extra BTU really does not matter because you can cook several recipes simultaneously.
You do not have to worry about your utensils and grill tools as well. The storage of the Regal XL Pro is spacious and can store most equipment that you need while cooking.
The main storage found under the primary cooking surface boasts three doors for separating tools and stored food. The stainless side shelves also provide space for storage with integrated hooks for spatula and tongs.
Get Ready for a Fast Cooking experience!
Cooking in the Regal XL Pro is such a weight off of the shoulders. When you are hosting a party, you usually start early in the afternoon preparing the food and cooking it as well.
That risks the heat of the food when serving it. Some food might be too cold when dinner comes.
Not in the Regal XL Pro, though. With 1,000 square inches of total cooking area, all I needed to do that afternoon was to prepare the ingredients.
An hour before dinner, I started throwing the food into the grill and hosting 10 people is no problem at all. The food for that many people can be cooked at the same time on the Regal XL Pro.
The innovative grids on the grill are perfect for attaining those searing grids that you see in steaks.
The spaces on the grids slowly cook the meat all throughout and flipping the steaks are easy with the non-stick coated grill as well.
The lids of the grill are high enough to keep the heat inside and roast chicken perfectly. The smoke provided by the drippings is flavorful and you can smell the rich flavor that goes into the meat.
Keep your Food Warm
The side burner and the rotisserie burner are great for cooking other dishes while the main dish is cooking on the primary burner.
You can use the side burner to warm soup and gravy and keep your food rested while waiting for your guests. The two thermometers on each lid also allow you to know the temperature on the grill.
I easily controlled the temperature of the grill with the knobs on the front to keep the food from burning while keeping them warm as well.
What I did not like with the Regal XL Pro
The thermometers are placed on the lid which means that you cannot see the temperature without closing the lid and letting it sit for at least a minute to determine the exact temperature.
I did find this a little off because I wanted to know the temperature at all times. But it is not really an inconvenience because closing the grill provides the thermometers the accurate temperature inside the grill.
I cannot say that I do not like the lack of BTU because it still performs just as promised. Some people may find it lacking but the heat that the 60, 000 BTU provides is enough for many foods.
The grill was really hard to move because of its massive size and weight. You cannot regularly move it around but this is not a grill designed for mobility so that is fine.
It also makes up with the leveler on the legs as you can out the grill down on uneven surfaces.
Other Customer Reviews
There were complaints about how the other components of the grill were rusting after a couple of years.
This may be possible if you use the grill outside the house because of the exposure to natural elements. However, Broil King has warranties on their parts so you can get new parts.
Other customers say that the flare-ups from the grill are too much. If you experience this, I suggest that you check grease build-ups because I have not experienced this yet.
Conclusion
The Broil King Regal XL Pro is a great grill. With the 6 amazing burners, it cooks food with speed.
The massive surface of the grill is perfect for hosting parties and family gatherings. Host at least 20 people and cook enough food for them in just a couple of hours.
With a few thousand dollars for the grill, I really think that this grill is worth its price and even more.
The performance of the grill makes you feel like a professional chef and that really takes away the price that you paid for it.
The BTU of the grill is lacking when it comes to the cooking space provided but it was enough to cook food evenly and quickly.
I can cook at any time of the day and still manage to control the heat with the LED-lit control knobs. It is very ideal for cooking after sunset.
With a 10-year warranty on the stainless steel burners, you can be confident that this grill will last for years to come.
Broil King also offers a 2-year warranty on the parts and paint of the grill so this is a very great grill to invest in.
The grill is also easy to clean. With just a clean towel, you can wipe the excess oil off of the grill and the grease trap does its job so you would not need to clean it every now and then.
The storage space is amazing as well. I did not have any trouble looking for a spatula inside the house because you can store them in the large compartment provided.
This grill has everything that you need and so much more.
I can definitely recommend this grill and say that it is a great investment. It can last for years performing well throughout the time.
Make sure to check out other products by Broil King as they have an amazing series of grills that perform just as well as the Regal XL Pro and they all justify their price with their amazing features and performances.
This Broil King Regal XL Pro Review is really great and just looking at the food on that page was enough to make my mouth water so I guess this cooking system really is great. I was wondering if it comes with covers as I’m not sure if it will be ok to keep outside due to it’s size?
Stephen
You need to get a cover separately and, I do agree it is best to cover it so that it doesn’t get damaged in intense weather conditions.
